I actually DO remember how I heard of 9.
I was randomly linked to the trailer from someone's journal on DA, watched it, immediately thought it was AWESOME and showed my brother so we could both SQUEE! about our excitement.
But then, since the release date was/is so ridiculously far off... I kinda... well, not forgot, but... didn't dwell on it too much. But after a week or two of it popping up randomly in my mind, my interest for it grew more, and then I found the exclusive clip with the winged beast, thought that was AWESOME too... and then.... somehow got linked to this forum (can't remember where or how) like.... 3 days ago? 2 days? *can't remember*
EDIT: BTW, I really wanna check out the Mature Board, but I'm lame and can't find the password. ^^;

I'm glad I got obsessed with 9 last month. I don't have a lick of patience in me. Going to see Coraline was without a doubt one the best decisions I've ever made.

Everyday in the morning I check all of the headlines on Yahoo and sometimes look to see if there a new trailer for a good movie or something. I saw they had the 9 trailer on the headlines but I didn't really want to check it out. After 3 or 4 days (giggles) I gave up and then I got obsessed.

4 months ago 3Dasha said she have found the coolest movie she ever seen. When I have seen trailer I was amazed. Then I saw short film I decided I'll be in a movie theater at 9/09/09. So I glad I didn't know about "9" 2 years ago because I would haven't been waiting for so long!

I saw the new trailer in theaters when my boyfriend took me to see Transformers 2. At first I was like, "Well, this looks bizarre. Figures Tim Burton would make something like this!" Then of course, I did a little more research on it and now I'm COMPETELY OBSESSED!!!!

I was actually looking up topics for a reaserch paper I had to do for my english class last december, and found the short 9. I fell in love with that instantly, and thought "Ok, I HAVE to write about this!" ( I ended up writing the paper on Shane Acker and how the short skyrocketed his career, leading to the production of the full length 9. 17 pages of pure 9ness and an A grade make me a happy fangirl! ) But, doing research on anything and everything Shane Acker/9, I found out about the movie, saw the trailer, fell even deeper in love with 9, and still can't stop talking about it to this day! Whenever I think about it, I'll get a huge, random grin on my face, and my sister will hit me on the forehead and yell "No 9 thoughts!"

I don't know. All I remember is reading the Wikipedia article, then watching the trailer and the original short film, then showing the trailer to all my friends at school.

You know...I could have SWORN I saw the short film nomination thing and thinking it looked cool. But my brain just might have made that up to make up for the fact that I never saw it before a few months ago...because that makes me sad. lol The first time I saw anything for the movie that I can truly recall is when I was walking out of the bathroom and the movie theaters..(yes...the bathroom) and saw the movie poster on the wall. For some reason something in my brain automatically said, 'That reminds me of Fallout 3!" (which is odd, because I've never even played the game xD I'm just a Bethesda fan.. ) And I immediatly said, "I need to see that!" Then when we went in to see our movie there was a trailer for it and I almost fainted for the pure win the trailer brought to my eyes. I think what really got me more then anything was the originally and beauty. It just seemed so...different. Completely broke the stereotype of what animation should be. And I've been waiting for something like that for a looong time. [WARNING...Mini rant ahead!] And I'm truthfully VERY pissed at the movie industry lately. I can't remember the time I've actually been excited for a movie to come out. And I can't remember the last time I walked out of a movie theater and thought, 'Damn, that was good.' I mean, just seeing the 9 trailer made me say that! Not joking. I don't know...It's just that to me most movies nowaday are all the same old story, but with different characters and settings. I probably make no sense. Sorry...I CANNOT explain myself very well. I have issues with stuff like that.

I'm PRETTY sure I saw the trailer with Coraline.
Although, now that I think about it, I think I saw it on Youtube beforehand.

Saw it at the midnight showing of X-Men Origins. Me and my friend weren't paying attention when suddenly this trailer starts, and at the same time we both look up and glance at each other. Then Welcome Home starts and it gets insanely epic. We were both floored. Afterwards we turned to each other, speechless for a moment, then exploded with "OMGTHAT'S AWESOME!!" Since then I have been a rapid fan. I found this site through Undead's (I think) link on IMDB. ;D -Oh, I did see the short way back when it first came out, HOW I forgot it I'll never know (I didn't remember till I watched it after my obsession took over and was like "....I've seen this... ")...
