Whew, dear lord I haven't seen THIS thread in a while...
Jeez...I...I don't even know what to put into this anymore. For some reason I keep thinking to Infinite 9...so you know, if SOMEONE is reading this some insight would be enjoyed XD

I think they are immortal as long as they don't break down or get their soul sucked out. Breaking down would depend on the materials they are made out of and if they get themselves killed.

But can they come back after being taken into the talisman? Say if their bodies were preserved?

We at Aperture Science find this to be a plausible hypothesis.

But can they come back after being taken into the talisman? Say if their bodies were preserved? Well, as far as we know, 1 and 5's bodies are still intact at the end of the movie. Their eyes were destroyed, but it's possible the Scientist had some spare ones in his lab, and that the survivors could have figured out how to replace them. That idea is actually really sad -- that they could have brought their friends back, but didn't know how to do it. :(

then again, if you put them back in their bodies, that means no rain, right? Someone needs to tie Shane up and shove a mic in his face so that we can get answers.

^ I think at this point it's gonna be you. Well, 8's pretty much been blown up, so whatever rain he can create...there's still that. In the light of Red's observation, though, I think the ending we have is preferable to the possibility of bringing 1, 2, 5, 6, and 8 back but simply not knowing how.

Actually, I think he -might- have used 1-9 as like...an introductory tool. Like, the REAL story, isn't with the stitchpunks themselves, but the world as a whole. The next movie, if there was one, might have a new cast.

there could be a possibility that, even if they are revived, the rain could continue on. it's just a small personal theory, but I think that if their souls remains… Wherever it is their souls are… small bits and pieces of them might be behind if they were revived.
Like I said, it's just a theory. As for 8 being revived, and even 6 or 2, you probably have to create completely new bodies for them. Considering the DVD commentary said that one through 8 lived for about 50 years before 9 awoke, they could live for a pretty darn long time.
I like the way you think Ink, the world as a whole could be rather interesting sequel idea. But we won't know until it comes out, if it does, and I hope it does!

I really don't think that if they were to pull the souls back to their bodies (new or otherwise), the rain would stop. I don't even think that the rain was triggered by their souls to begin with (but this thread isn't the place to discuss that, so I'll stop before I textwall XD). So I think returning the souls to the bodies wouldn't be all that much of a problem in regards to the world.
As for what Red said about the optics, that's something I've thought about too. XD; If they were to bring them back, they should really replace the optics first - returning the souls and having the revived blind and/or in pain wouldn't exactly be pleasant.
