Hey, just an interesting piece of trivia I found in today's lecture at school, There's a Latin phrase called "ad fontes" that translates to "go back to the source". In the humanities, it is the studying of different writings from different eras and comparing them to not only note any differences but also see how much civilization (philsophy, socially, civilly, it's a broad spectrum) has advanced. Very interesting

Very interesting SWEET! I'll need to add that to the Real Life section of GBTTS! Someone needs to add in the tropes about Mr. Fab's choo-choo he was building in the Scientist's video X3 What are the tropes that would apply to that?

Are there any about toy building? XD Or something like "innocence lost"? Because that is the scene where he breaks a soldiers neck (because they're trying to take him from the Scientist).

You mean if a trope like that exists or not, Anna? I'm not sure if there is one like that, but if there's not, and we can think up quite a few examples besides 9, then I could make it a trope!

there was also a discussion on here about how none of the dead people's faces are shown (except for the chancellor). I've seen that kind of censorship in several films(I can think of 5 off the top of my head), but wasn't able to find it anywhere on TV Tropes. It also goes hand in hand with that thing where you know something violent happens, but the victim is facing away from the camera, supposedly sustaining the rating of the film.(like in Guardians of Ga'hoole when *SPOILERS* Soren picks up that stick at the last moment, killing the king of the pure ones. Only, they can't show someone being impaled or any blood in a family movie, so they don't actually show the stick going through his chest. *SPOILERS*
Would it be possible to make a trope of one, or both of those? The first one could be called "The Faceless Dead" in honor of the thread name, or something else if it were to be put into the forms of censorship category.

I could make those tropes! *shot*
Oh, and I can now say that Fear Is The Appropriate Response is now officially a trope! *fanfare music*

Yay for being official! XD
5x7lover: I think those are plausible... I mean, I'm sure there are more examples we haven't thought of (like in Tarzan, they show the guy getting hung from the tree... but only the SHADOW of him being hung. Would that count?). I would go for it.

Yay! One more trope for the 9 team! That's a good one. A better example in that movie would be in the beginning when Kala finds the cabin Tarzan was in, you can actually see Tarzan's parents lying dead inside with their facing side obscured by a board. But, the bloody footprints of the cheetah make it obvious what they're doing there. Some other ones I was thinking of were: the 2005 version of Of Mice and Men, when Lennie accidentally kills Curley's wife. Iron Giant, with the dead deer they find. They do this in House a lot, when patients die, but a more memorable one would be the episode when they enter Kutner's house and find that he commited suicide. Most of his lower body is sticking out from behind a doorway, which at an obscure camera angle, neither his face or a lot of his upper body is shown at all. But there is of course way too much blood around him on the floor for him to be able to survive. There are probably tons more, because it's been able to be imprinted onto my mind that whenever a face isn't shown like that I thnk "Oh, he/she must be dead." [EDIT] Also, could you give a link to the new FITAR trope page, Sparrow? I'm still kind of new to finding these darn things.

^ I actually thought of one today, from the Lion King... I don't think I saw it up there. When Simba notices the herd is coming at him, it zooms in on his "oh SHIT" face, and he runs for it. XD
