You should see the discussion about 9 on the actual page for Ho Yay in films. Almost all of it is about 2 and 5

Apologizing in advance about bumping this thread, but I had to post because TVTropes got me into 9. I mean the trailer made me want to see it, and what I'd seen from the fandom, but I had to see if the '9 drinking game', the Ho Yay, and some other things were there. (Edit: Which, might I say, were indeed there. *ducks*)
It spoiled everything of course because I couldn't resist highlighting the spoiler blanks, but I didn't want to see the movie and be down about all the deaths because I knew I'd like the Cool Old Guy (yay 2!) but that he would spend most of the movie as a corpse. I preferred to know in advance so I wouldn't be completely depressed (though despite knowing about 5's death and the creepy Soundtrack Dissonance; at least most of the others didn't have time to struggle).
Plus it introduced me to the Pope Doll Song, which wins it automatic awesome points. That and some things made me laugh or go 'ooh, seriously?' so yeah.

I think Book Ends could also be a trope for 9. Think about it. When 9 puts the tailsmen in the Fabrication machine, 2 pushed him out of the way, thus sacrificing himself. Then near the end of the movie, when 9 is about to get his soul sucked, 1 pushes himself out of the way, thus sacrificing himself. Both of the elders died by pushing 9 out of the way, 2's death occuring near the begining of the movie and 1's occuring near the end.
Also, if someone is willing to mention the famous "THIS IS SMASHING" on there, it might be able to count as THIS. IS. SPARTA!
