Some sounds require a tongue, though (Atleast, in humans it does). You can't make a "t" sound with just your mouth, for example. So even if they didn't have a "tongue", there would have to be something else in there to help. XD Perhaps there's something in their throat/ chests that acts as a tounge? =D Alright, now I'm just making up crap that probably isn't true |D;

Perhaps. A 't' sound could be made with a valve or something. (I'm totally making this up too, Pickle.)

Maybe a little piece of leather, or something... I can't imagine the scientist sitting at his table, making little ragdoll tongues. XD!!

Scientist: MMMM YES I MUST ADD TONGUES TO MY DOLLS Wife: BUT WHY MASTER? Scientist: -Slaps her- WOMAN DO NOT QUESTION ME NOW GO MAKE ME A SANDWICH AND DIE IN SOME GAS OR SOMETHING I DON'T REALLY CARE.
IMO, I think they were like radios sound wise, and move their mouths for show. Like, you know, it's just in their programming to move their mouths like that because the scientist was a toy-maker before. You know those talking dolls, that are all like, "I MADE A DOODY UH-OH" and their lips move up and down? I think it's sort of like that. The scientist just wanted to do that because it was in his nature. It's like asking why the stitchpunks breath- it's all for show. Obviously they don't need too, they just feel like they do.
Remember, they share the soul of a human, so they probably hold some of the natural human instincts (Such as; if something mysterious is appearing to most likely eat you or something since you've just seen a lot of carnage and whatnot, hit it with something large and metal).

Probably just animation error- but a funny find nonetheless! Also, on the topic of 7's helmet, I would just like to say that it is probably the most hardcore helmet I've ever seen. I applaud Shane Acker for this. I think what's most funny is that I don't recall his eyes growing that wide in other, more dangerous situations. I agree, it was probably some animation oversight. What I find coolest is how her helmet has earrings. I mean, at least I'm pretty sure they're connected to the helmet and not her head. But how many helmets do you see with a set of earrings? Pretty tight, not to mention a smart way of keeping things organized and together. (wow really off topic at this point.) Me and my sister were watching the clip where 9 meets 2 and when 2's eyes grew wider we watched that part again to see something and she said that it looked like 2's eyes got wider because the lens on his candle hat went over his eyes and magnified them, making them seem bigger for that moment.

My apologies, but yes; another alchemy note. See the text behind 1 in this screenshot? I can't read all of them, but I can make out the Latin words "Transmutata Vitae." 'Transmutata' comes from 'transmitto,' which means to convey or transmit. 'Vitae' is simply a collective noun for life. So it's literally: "Transmitting/conveying life." A formula for the creation of a homunculus! ...Ahem... That's it. I know waaaaaaay too much about these things, don't I? *scurries away quietly*

Nice job, Bane Reiko! I can't really read Latin, but the letters are pretty legible. Have at it, linkslovergirl. I would love to see it translated! :3

Anna and I dubbed that scene yesterday, and at the beginning (when 9 and 5 first look at a book) there's a close-up of Latin words as 9 reads. I'm not sure if the words are cut off, though...

On the subject of voice boxes, why did the Seamstress feel the need to sew 8's mouth shut if it wouldn't have had any effect on his voice? He still could've spoken, though it may have been muffled. I know 8's not much of a talker, but geez man, some warning would've been nice.

Maybe that was just to amp up how disturbing it was?
I mean, if 8 was in there sewn up that's one thing. But his mouth too? That's just disturbing.

Sewing his mouth shut may have just been symbolic of his helplessness. Or, possibly, the voice box cannot function if the mouth doesn't (either because of some influence from his soul or just the way his body is wired.) Either way, it's a creepy scenario.

Perfect reasoning, gentlemen and gentleladies. -u- I didn't even notice that the Seamstress did that to 8 until reading this thread. Gotta say, that makes it about 19 times more disturbing. Just glad it didn't sew up 1 or 7 like that. 0_0 Creepy.

I don't think she had TIME to sew up 1 or 7 (because of 5 shooting her in the eye, etc.) That would have been creepy, though.
8 did try and yell at the Seamstress before he died, though. So I think it's obvious the mouths ARE needed to form words other than "MMMPH".
