Yeah, I've seen nothing anywhere else to indicate this is true. I call BS.

I just checked both the "9" and Shane Acker's wikipedia pages (again, wikipedia). Shane's says nothing about working on a "9" sequel or prequel. The "9" page has a small factoid at the bottom called "Sequel and Prequel," which basically says that Shane Acker mentions the idea of a prequel and sequel in the commentary of "9," but that the features are speculative. I'd say that you can draw more fact from one of those elusive interviews from a year ago when Shane mentioned the possibility of continuing "9," and even then, the trail's too old to follow.
-I got all excited when I heard that "The Nightmare Before Christmas" was being adapted into a Broadway stage musical because some moron posted it on wikipedia. Let's just wait and see if something gets brought up elsewhere, or, if it is on wiki, better citation is needed than speculation.

I know they did talk about it, Shane mentioned in an interview having a meeting about sequel ideas with everyone. But if they're actually doing anything, it hasn't been officially announced yet. So... chillax. XD

That sounds like a little kid show o__O Okay kids, it's time for 9 and Friends! : DDD Let's see what they will be doing today! *9, the Twins, and 7 are running away from another machine* Yaaaaaay! Oh, isn't this just fun, kids?! ...Why did I just read that in 2's voice. He'd so be the narrator XD

Well, I actually have a bit of a reliable source regarding whether or not a sequal is coming. But I digress at first.
The idea of a prequel is absolutely intriguing, and highly anticipated more than a sequel. In all essence, it is the prequel that holds the potential, not a sequel. A good majority of people hated 9, and while we all want to see if Shane Acker can tell us the others can come back, running around the Emptiness with just four punks (only two of which that can physically talk), while trying to figure out what to do is a little monotonous in itself.
I'd be more up for a prequel. It sounds to me as if you are one of those who shoots for the Idea and Event type stories, which are stories that focus on one large event, or the Idea of following discoveries through a character's eyes.
A very large portion of people in the 9 fandom are only interested in two things: The Character Story, and the Mileau story. The Character story pretty much focuses on the transformation of a character throughout a series of events, monotonous or not. A lot of people may loathe Gran Torino because it's not action packed and fulfilling, but the insane amount of character development brings the picture to a satisfying punch. We want to know how the characters are how they are, why we can't get them to do certain things now, that they may have been up to in the past.
The Mileau story focuses on the world. In this case, we really don't give a damn what characters appear. We're more interested in the world and how it works, because to us as artists and writers, we have to rely on the mechanics of Shane Acker's world in order to fully understand the lengths at which any sequal or rip-off could process. You make it too out of character or too outlandish and people already are drawn away.
It's like those who are a fan of Avatar. That is a Character and Mileau brand story. If James Cameron wants to create the trilogy he wants, he's going to have to be sure that the two characters, and the world have enough UNKNOWN about them in order to fuel us into watching it. After a while, reading all the fanfiction on fanfiction.net does shit for us when we no longer see why we should care about what's happening.
In other news. Shane Acker IS working on a prequel/sequel to 9. Brandon, a youth mentor at a church downtown is one of my closest friends, and we didn't find out until recently that he is a 9 fan. He happens to also be friends with a film director, who was raised here in Lexington and Winchester Kentucky, and has more than enough movies under his belt to be considered a reliable source. Around a trip to California, the said director (I'm only keeping his name underwraps simply by request, but I can definitely assure you on my word that his own word is reliable) did meet up with Acker for lunch, as they were discussing plans for two other non 9 related projects. When the subject of "In relation to" was brought up, Acker did mention his ongoing research into a sequel/prequel to 9, because the world he had created was far too large to encompass in the movie he did. He was upset with some of the changes made from the screenplay to the movie, as he felt they were heavily detaining information from the audience, so much, that they had to write the movie backwards to get an idea of what the audience was going to learn, and to make sure he wasn't throwing out new strings that would leave loose at the end.
So yes, there is -something- in the works, because Acker has evolved on the world of 9 throughout his college years working on the short film, and he is simply not satisfied with the small bit we have. He wanted to give us more from the start.

I actually would much rather see something in other media. I think 9 would make for a great comic book, perhaps even a novel. I would DIE for a video game which is why I'm so phycked for 3rd council. A TV show would be nice in the fact that you can always see more, but the animation quality would probably be cut and then you would most likely need more characters.
I had always been a sequel man myself, strictly for the fact of "what the heck happened next?" And of course I want to see if the stitchpunks could come back. However, prequel does add for more characters, and human ones no less. Except, it would be 9....withouth 9. I'm sorry, I can't see 9 without 9....no matter how derpy he is.

You have a point there. Considering a prequel wouldn't have 9 in it... would it be called something like The Land Before 9? *shot for The Land Before Time reference*

This is good news here but I have to agree with Inkweaver, 9 wouldn't be the same with our hero. So if the prequel is coming up, it's gonna be a video game right? Shane said in one interview that if they made the prequel it will be a game if I remember correctly.

^ I saw the concept art for the game. I wish it hadn't been cancelled. I'd buy that game even if it was $300. Dead serious here.
Also, am I the only one here who would prefer a sequel over a prequel?

Ooookay.... here's my take on the thing.
You see, in another roleplay room of mine, I rp this librarian (laaaaaaaaaaame, I know) and she kind of researched on Stitchpunkkind, finding out that the scientist's blueprints had actually been copied and sold to people. (This is my theory as to how alll these other dolls were made, anyway).
So maybe there IS a way to bring new characters, maybe some other number (10 onwards, or mathmaticla or whatever simbols, or just names, like people in theie fandoms give their creations). I'd personally like to see a kind of Church vs. Rogues- thing. If you get my point.

YAY PREQUEL!!! *shot* There was gonna be a game, but it got scrapped. Had machine/level concept art and everything... DX Can someone show me this concept art? With like a link or something? I really wanna see. And as I stated before, if there is another MOVIE, then a sequel. I'm okay with a prequel as a comic book though.
