Well, the lack of character development did bother me somewhat. But, that just leaves more for us 9fans to develop ourselves through fiction!

My biggest problem with the film is that it's WAY TOO SHORT, and because of that there is little character development.
Just about what everybody else is saying.

I didn't really notice the first time, but the second time I saw 9 it went by way too fast. It seemed like everything happened before you got a chance to really process what was happening.

With the whole "5 and 7 forgave 9 too fast for killing 2" thing, I could totally see 5 getting angry instead of upset and punching 9 in the face, starting a fight between the two.

In all honesty... It wasn't sad enough. Call me crazy but the only scene in the movie that made me remotly sad in the movie was the funeral for 2. Had they killed off one or both of the twins, I would've been crying in the movie, but it didn't happen like I thought it would and actually SHOULD have happened. Why? Because it would be a much more touching scene to add to the movie. If 9 would be the only one left alive like he was in the short, I think it would've been better.

Well really I'd hate the movie if he was the only one left considering he's such an ass for killing off half within a week after 1s many years of keeping them safe...

Ok, there is one thing that bugged me about the movie- though it has more to do with the movie than the backstory itself. I'm probably TOTALLY wrong about this, because I normally am and get verbally abused for it- so please, don't verbally abuse me like everyone IRL does, please.
Ok. Well, 1 says 'I, who have kept everyone safe for all these years-" Didn't the Scientist's Facebook say they were all created within the month? Just because they're smaller doesn't mean time should go by more quickly.

The movie is never clear about how much time has passed since their creation, and it's implied that 9's been 'asleep' for a very long time. They were all created maybe weeks apart, but they've been around since the war ended, and the war didn't end recently.

The fact all of my fave characters died.
that really hurts. Normally, when my fave dies, my 2nd fave doesn't. ALL my faves died this time.
And the fact that the movie was way too short. because it's barely over an hour, and you figure that there would have been more to the story, which leads me to my next statement
In general, If you REALLY look at the big picture. the movie sucks. But if you take in each part of the movie, it's auctually pretty good. The plot is a very good plot, the idea is perfect, the characters are very easy to love, even if they arn't very in depth, and the graphics are amazing.
Don't shoot!!!!. I honestly Love the movie, it just took 2 times seeing it to prove it.

This is only a minor thing, but ever since I first noticed it the other day, I can't not notice it every time I see the film now! XD When 8 first appears, the floorboards creak a lot with each steps he takes. It's obvious that he's the biggest of all the stitchpunks, but surely even he isn't so big as to make the floor creak that much! I just thought that was slightly over-the-top, if they were trying to emphasize his size. ;^^

I love the movie no matter what, but there are some things that kind of bothered me. But hey, everything has it's flaws.
I think one of the other characters that CAN talk should've survived along with 9 and 7 rather than both of the twins. If I made 9, I would've had one of the twins killed and either 5, 6, or 1 surviving. No offense to anyone who likes the twins and I don't hate the twins, but they seemed to be there just to be cute.
Also, I think they killed off all the other male characters and left 9 with 7 just to shove 7x9 into our brains. As if 9's feelings for 7 weren't obvious enough, they had to leave 7 with 9 along with two childlike twins as in to say "7 AND 9 HAVE CHILDREN THERFORE THEY ARE A COUPLE". I think I would've let 1, 5, or 6 survive even if I didn't end up killing off one off the twins just to make 7x9 not-so-obvious. Again, no offense to anyone who LIKES 7x9, but I just don't like the way it was put in there. It's like Shane knew people would notice the tiny 5x9 hints and judge him for putting a gay couple in his movie, so he just shoved in some painfully obvious 7x9 hints last minute.

While this is a grand movie with some lovable characters, it still managed to royally piss me off... First off, you really don't get to see much about the war. Pretty much just the flashback and news clip, and that's it. Not to mention they removed some awesome and totally quotable quotes, like "Smashing!" and "You wanna live? Fight!", which is kind of a bummer. And the little screen time and no character development. As well as only being 15 minutes into the movie, and a character is already killed off(and its old, cute little 2 for god's sakes). As well as nobody getting pissed off at 9 for killing half of the characters off. He should have totally gotten a slap to the face or punch in the gut by 5 for having killed off 2. Honestly, I don't care if 9 is the "baby" of the group or if it was just an "accident". Most characters would have enough commonsense to not going around and inserting things into eery looking machinery, no matter how curious they are. And 7x9 was just shoved way to down my throat that I gagged. Now don't get me wrong, I like the pairing as much as any other fan, but just not as cannon. The pairing took away 7's badass personality and made me ticked off that they just happened to be left alive at the end of movie. It's like Shane knew people would notice the tiny 5x9 hints and judge him for putting a gay couple in his movie, so he just shoved in some painfully obvious 7x9 hints last minute. I 100% agree to this theory, Crispy. *exalts*

Ok just like everyone else here I love this movie. Everyone wonders why. And most likely it's something you don't see everyday. But the most complaints I get or my thoughts on the movie is that the story or plot is too thin. Especially the ending. Sorry guys but for some strange reason I knew what 9 was going to say at the ending when I saw this in theaters. It kinda feels like the maker went lazy at the end of it and just had it end that way no signs of what they are suppose to do afterwards or any signs of new life. Well maybe those ameba rain drops may show little signs but what are they suppose to mean?
For me, the characters didn't have enough screen time. Not from a crazy fangirl point of veiw but the characters were only there to lead or protect the main character so the film can move on. And they didn't have a good way of portraying the characters if they weren't given enough screen time. If they did we would be able to put together what developed throughout their years when they hid from the machines. The whole movie was mainly pointed at 9 and we didn't really need to see the character a lot because he was only alive for 2 days nothing much happened to him. So as we follow along with him in the film it's most likely his reaction to all these new things around him. And seeing some of these characters being killed off is just a way of saying ok there's no need for this character from this point on.
Well that's what I got so far I'll run into more issues later. I don't say this to be mean.

The only thing that really, actually there are a lot of things that bug me in the movie. 1. 9 was sleeping for a good 50 years. THAT'S TOO FREAKIN' MUCH, SHANE. WHAT'S UP IN YO HEAD, MAN? If he was in 9 years of hibernation then that would make sense. *smacked* What? It does make sense! 2. When 7's about to sever the Cat Beast and the camera angles her jumping high into the air and doing a flip in slow motion, to me, that looked completley overrated. Because every time a scene where somebody is trying to escape and something is about to collapse or capture them, they always make it in slow motion. I mean, that's good in movies once in a while, but over time, it gets really overrated. 3. THEY DIDN'T PRESENT ALL OF THE RAG DOLLS, 1-9 AS A GROUP IN THE MOVIE. EVER. Now, I've shown the movie to my aunt and when that flashback scene occured during the war and after 5 lost his eye, I noticed that 6 was with them! I thought he wasn't but he was! I was really pissed off, because I hate it when all of the rag dolls are presented as a group but a character or two are left out! But, I love the movie. I don't care if Shane had these major flaws or stuff like that, especially #3 (Well, actually I do care, but I just typed those boogers in so I could get them out of my system.)Shane, I'm so sorry about what I'd said in the "Things you caught after multiple viewings" thread. I'll take that back.

I like this analysis you did. Very well! And I respect your views on the 7x9 and 5x9 pairings. I felt a little differently about this, though. I feel like a traitor by saying this, but, to me, I truly did see 5 and 9 as just being close friends. That their close interactions were meant to show that it's okay to treat your friends this way, regardless of gender. That it's okay to be scared and hide behind your friend, and show your feelings and be affectionate, even if you're a boy. For me, 7x9 wasn't really gagged down my throat, even though now that I think about it, it was portrayed as a dominant pairing. The reasons for me saying this is because 9 being with 7, being in love/having a love interest, was not the main theme of this movie. It was sort of just there. Also, the fact that they did not kiss was a major plus, for that, I think, would've been unneeded, and unnecessary. "As if 9's feelings for 7 weren't obvious enough, they had to leave 7 with 9 along with two childlike twins as in to say "7 AND 9 HAVE CHILDREN THERFORE THEY ARE A COUPLE" I can really see this, though. And that does make me feel crummy that this is the way it is. To tell you the truth, my biggest complain was the part with 8 and his magnet. Eh..heheh...heh.. x///x;. I didn't think that such a reference needed to be in there (unless I'm totally missing the deeper meaning of this scene). And of course, like all of you said, character development/more screen time. The deleted scenes should've been in the movie, too! Especially the scene with 1 and 9. xDD Minor things, minor things. I really love this movie, though. (:
