Possibility of other Scientists: A discussion

So Snowiweather and I were chatting about our OCs from the RP, one of mine being my version of the Scientist after putting his entire soul in one stitchpunk, and suddenly this happened.


Socky: ...I still think it's rather cool that he's my universe's scientist.

Snowi: It IS cool.

Socky: I'm surprised others haven't explored that possibility, of there being more than one. Or an alternate universe, in my case.

Snowi: Well, the original idea of the Rebels was that one of their human counterparts was a younger scientist, who discovered the first scientist's notes and decided to help him.

Socky: My thoughts were more that this sort of research had to have taken place over years, so it must've been shared with other great minds at some point. Who knows, maybe they made something other than stitchpunks from the soulbits.

Snowi: Mmm. True. I sort've thought that the Scientist would've kept this research a secret, even after he used alchemy to transfer his intelligence to the BRAIN.

Socky: Under the Chancellor's orders?

Snowi: I never actually thought he made the BRAIN under the Chancellor's orders. That he did it himself, but became entangled with the Chancellor afterwords.

Socky: I meant about keeping it a secret.

Snowi: Ahh. No. I think he kept it a complete secret after the BRAIN was taken and the Chancellor proven to be a douchebag.

Socky: Oh. So what about the interval between when he made it and when it was taken?

Snowi: I think he didn't really pursue the concept of soul-transference then. Maybe skimmed it once while looking for information to make the BRAIN sentient, but never actually looked further till he realized what he could achieve with it.

Socky: But it is possible that the other scientists could've gotten hold of the research and pursued it in similar, possibly different, ways?

Snowi: Hmmm... I'm not sure that other scientists would consider alchemy legitimate and think it could accomplish anything. It WAS proven to be pretty phoney, at least in our universe.

Socky: Yes, but this isn't OUR universe that we're discussing.

Snowi: True, but I doubt that any scientist in that world would have believed that it actually worked. Except ours. *hugs Scientist*

Socky: Perhaps. But maybe they had a copy of the research that wasn't thrown out, and only decided to do something with it once the BRAIN was proven a success.

Snowi: But would it have been revealed by the Chancellor and the Scientist that alchemy WAS used to make it?

Socky: ...Good point.


And that was pretty much the end of the discussion, because I couldn't think of a comeback for that. XD

Good points XD Personally, I highly doubt, with the information being in a book that the twins had in the library, that the Scientist from the movie was the only human being who was able to create a transfer device, and then stitchpunks. I imagine there may be more, elsewhere. Assuming they survived the apocalypse/survived over time.

In fact, as is a sort of basis for my Jabberwock: Beast of Madness fic, considering that book is in Latin, that book might be quite old, and therefore a similar thing might have been done around the Middle Ages or something...

Yup, I believe it. The Scientist, in my opinion, found information on the subject and then went from there. I highly doubt he invented the process himself. So, there could be others. Atleast in fanfics and art, for the moment. XD

Well, it may be like Fullmetal Alchemist.

In one universe, Alchemy does not exist and has been shoved aside as magic and fantasy, but in another it was perfected and used in every day life.

We didn't exactly get all that much information on the Scientist and alchemy, so there is a possibility that there is a while FIELD of people researching it! Heck, the Scientist may have just been the first one to perfect it and others actually had a similar process long before him.

But like I said, no one knows. It's all up in the air and to our imaginations.

Well, even in 1920-40ish times, there was well over a billion people in the world, with thousands of scientists working on various things.
It's a lot better chance than one might think at first glance that another scientist discovered that alchemy could be used in such a way, and went thru with it; maybe even telling his colleagues about it/showing them the evidence by showing up with the ragdolls themselves

Well, with my character Tweek I explored that possibility and I honestly think that the Scientist can't have been the only one to make them.. I mean if they had that kind of technology lying around like that, you'd think more people would get the idea.
But not only that, if the Scientist had friends or fellow robotics experts it is only plausible to say that he may have shared his idea. In any case, if every average stitchpunk only took up 1/9th of a human's soul, then if there was a cult of scientists doing this (probably having spread the idea to each other by word of mouth) that could get up to be a large number of stitchpunks. Therefor creating a spread apart (probably so far that it would take a long time for them to find eachother if they weren't really adventurous) but very large community.. Large and diverse enough to support all kinds of OC's.

(tilts head) It's an interesting question.


It seemed like the scientist was the first person to successfully transfer intelligence into a machine-- and it looked to me like he did it using the scientific method. I felt like he didn't use alchemy to transfer his intellect to the Fabrication Machine, you know? At least, I don't remember any symbols being used. The transfer kind of resembled hooking up two computers, just with a human and some suction cups on one end.
So if he pioneered transfer technology, then turned to alchemy when things went wrong, I wonder if he would have had the time or the will to share it? After all, his world was ending.
The film seems to suggest that he invented the technology, and also was the only person with the time and experience to use it.

Then again, who knows how much time elasped between the creation of the Fabrication machine and the end of the world?
