I've been wondering for sometime, but do you think they killed the whole Earth or just one country, planning on going to the next country and then the next? I, personally, think they just killed one country, and then planning on going to the next, because the robots might not realize how huge the Earth is, until they start spreading outwards.

My personal headcanon maintains that they killed off the whole species, with the possible exception of isolated colonies on islands or up in the mountains. I don't think there are any sizeable population centres left, at least: humans are curious creatures, and I think someone would have come along to try and start rebuilding if there were whole nations of people left out there.

My friend (zoromon42 here) and I were thinking of the whole idea of how a sequel would come to be. Truth is, we were so silly that we came up with a family coming to the country, realizing that they came at a wrong time and that they find the rag dolls and explain that this was the only country that was destroyed; the machines died down eventually. *smacked for random idea*

This question left me wondering too..Possible theories?
1 said the gas "killed everything" perhaps a lot of the gas was carried around by the wind current across different countries? That's how pollution is, ya know. Perhaps some of the machines were taken across the country by ships, before they were reprogrammed? (Then again, they couldn't have just been automatically be reprogrammed from a distance. I could imagined some of the older machines fought with the reprogramed to protect their nation, and ended up being destroyed/overwhelmed by growing numbers)
But perhaps overseas were left unaffected...but wouldn't they have tried to colonize it by now if there were just ruins? Technology back then was capable of small airplanes and naval ships.

Well, the scientist's journal clearly states that the machines had already been dispatched WORLDWIDE, even before the Fab went psycho-nuts. With all that gas filling the air, I'm 100% sure everything's dead. EVERYTHING.

Some humans were killed directly by the machines, others by gas, and others probably were killed by things like... buildings falling down on top of them, etc.

I posted a theory somewhere around here about this
I believe that some humans ARE still alive because the Fabmac had begun to work on the GunWalkers again in the movie I mean, GunWalkers hunting down Stitchpunks? Bit overkill eh?
But they would be more useful hunting down something bigger... Like a person...

Yea, that makes more sense, I mean, they're pratically related (but not really, since the stitchpunks have souls). But, it might have to do with something having a soul, that the robots don't like or maybe they want one?

I believe in canon EVERYTHING was killed.
However, in fanon there are many ways they could have survived. JJ came up with one way with her fic 9U, and I came up with my own for Alchemic Awakening. For mine, a number of humans were gathered and alchemy was used to keep them in a sort of chrogenic freeze (not LITERALLY) until and IF they could live on the planet again.

The robots might've killed a grand majority of the population, but perhaps there are pockets of humans left on Earth. They may or may not contiue to survive, due to the poor condition of the planet.
This is why I find the idea of the last human on Earth taking care of the stitchpunks so facinating: how would the human survive?

Yeah, even if some humans did survive, they wouldn't live for very long. There's no more animals or plants for food, and water is not common. The air is also polluted, and the land is in ruins and hard to travel across.
So yeah, they would probably be better off dead like the rest of the population.

As much as I'd like for there to be even a *tiny* glimmer of hope for humanity outside of the rag dolls, unfortunately I'd have to take Anna's words as the harsh truth of the matter. Honestly, that's what I've always believed as well.
