I haz a few questions about stitchpunk optics:
1. Are they really camera lenses, or something else?
2. Which is a better design, 1's hex-style optics, the rounded optics, or the machines' "spiky" optics. This answer is to be mainly personal opinion
3. Why do stitchpunks blink?
Andy answers/opinions are good here ^^

1. I think they're camera lenses, yes. 2. Dunno about 'better', but 1's optics seem to be capable of a greater range of expressions. 3. In-universe, I've no idea. Out of universe, to make them not seem like they're staring all the time.

1: Like Az said, and like my sister's picture will show you (scroll down a bit), I do believe they are camera lens. 2: I personally love 1's optic design (it makes it look like he's sneering or glaring), but I think each design is varied, and allows for different expressions. For example, 7's optical rims are thinner than 9's and 5's, meaning that - while their pupils are the same size - it gives 7 the illusion of smaller, more feral eyes. 3: Um . . . that's a good question. ^^; I think it's to make them seem more human, and also, allows for them to actually close their eyes and sleep.

1. Yeah, I think they are camera lenses. ^^
2. Um. . . Well, I do think 1's eyes are pretty cool, I think that with all those slides on the newer ones, they could make nearly the same face, with those, "I'm not impressed and if fact slightly p!$$ed" kind of eyes. XD
3. Same with what Shadow said. ^^ I think it's a reflex that they got passed down from the humans, such as they still breath, even though they don't have any lungs. ^^

1. They look like camera lenses, they make the same sounds, he would have that technology available to him... I imagine so.
2. 1's eyes look good on him, and him alone. I can't imagine 7 or anyone else with them. They would just look scary. XD
3. Lenses can get dust on them...Water, perhaps. Think of it like windshield wipers!

I think it's a reflex that they got passed down from the humans, such as they still breath, even though they don't have any lungs. ^^ Let's not forget my theory on their "lungs" being used to cool their bodies off like mini-bellows ^^;

I think JJ found something like a little Snap Button that looks JUST like the optics.
1: Maybe, I'm not sure.
2: 1's design doesn't WORK on anyone else, like Anna said. XD
3: Because they need to look more human. *shot* OK! What Anna said.

this is a good question.
1: I dont know but it is very likely.
2: The optics of 1 are cruder. I think it was the scientist to build optical, changing the lens inside the camera of the '30s. He built several optical, he became more able to build. He was a toymaker after all. Was used to build small components.
3: Human reflex. A small inheritance as the act of breathing from the mouth, the emotion and actions involving, including accelerated breathing when they are frightened (see scene '9 meets 2' in the movie, 9 has accelerated the breath and feel the heartbeat)

3. Lenses can get dust on them...Water, perhaps. Think of it like windshield wipers! Aren't they behind glass though? ^^;; I can't remember... anyway, yeah, the blinking is probably just habit.

Yes they are Ani, but who's to say it can't get in through small cracks and gaps at the edges?

1. the movie is in a parallel universe, so I would say most likely a lens similar to our camera design.
2. I do prefer 1's optics, mainly because of the range of expressions. but it's true, they don't really work on any of the other canon characters.
3. I believe that it's a habit passed on with their soul like breathing, etc. but the act of blinking is probably not only good to keep specks and the likes out, but to keep the workings active so they don't rust over or anything.

1 - I do think they're camera lenses. All cameras are are machines built to mimic the human eye, as well as record visual information that can be reviewed later on in concrete form as opposed to a human trying to remember it and garner information from a sketchy memory. There's not much else they could be. They look the part, they act the part; the idea that they're cameras stands up to inductive reasoning. 2 - This one's all design-related. I think they gave 1 the pupil shape they did to not only make him more expressive, but also to convey that he's supposed to be old. If you look at him here, the way the slides are set up makes it look like he actually has bags under his eyes, so to speak, that add to the age effect. The round optics on the others I think were just for basic purposes of resembling a human eye, and then the spiky machine optics were supposed to give the machines a sort of sinister element. I think they all got across the feel they were supposed to, so I can't really choose a favorite because I like them all, just for different reasons. 3 - I kinda thought blinking was similar in function to when a camera lens shuts to take a picture - but in the stitchpunk's case, the lens shutting on an image doesn't exactly take a still photograph of the surroundings and stores it somewhere, but is sort of.. part of the whole taking in images and processing them that human eyes do when they look out on the world and send the images they're seeing to the brain? Like, the shuttering / blinking is a pause in the feed to help the processing of the images keep up its speed so there isn't an overload of information. But it's been ingrained into their functioning that it's all split-second, behind-the-scenes reactions that they're not even conscious are taking place. Kinda like all reflexive functions in biological bodies that we think are just happening, but when you look into it you see that there's so much more going on than it seems. I don't know, this is just me rambling.

BUMP TOPIC GO!!!1 1. Are they really camera lenses, or something else?
In my mind, and the minds of most others in this topic, all signs point to yes. They may not look exactly like ours today, but keep in mind the movie takes place in an alternate universe (where the industrial revolution never ended, in particular). Additionally, 3 and 4 have an uncanny ability to use a sort of flash function, or something along those lines. Put that all together, and it makes sense.
2. Which is a better design, 1's hex-style optics, the rounded optics, or the machines' "spiky" optics. This answer is to be mainly personal opinion.
1’s optics technically seem to be the most primitive, and additionally they have no glass lens to filter out any level of dust or grime. However, they can change shape, though that’s probably some involuntary reflex passed down through the soul, especially seeing as he‘s the oldest of the bunch. 2’s are basically round, but have a limited number of shutters, more than 1, but less than those of the newer stitchpunks, so nothing too special. Numbers 3 through 9 are basically the same with some slight abnormalities. But, as crazydiary suggested perhaps the Scientist made them, as he stepped into the world of AI some time ago, from a toymaker, and likely has plenty of skill, scrap- and scrap metal (take the stitchpunks’ hands and feet, for example)- to work with. Or maybe they’re spares from an earlier project. Then again I don’t think a proper mechanical automaton would need 18 varying optics, unless the Scientist was going to start some.. handheld camera business or something. I mean.. just.. why?
Unfortunately this theory defies every- well, most OCs there are t.. well, except the ones that are blind but still!
3. Why do stitchpunks blink?
Acro’s theory is actually pretty nice. I’ll just agree on that one, here.EDIT: 1 does have a glass lens over his eyes as shown here. I always end up making mistakes in my posts, yes, but if I fix them you can just pretend they never happened and everything will be fine and dandy. Or, you don't have to, but I'd feel better if you either did. Or said nothing.
