I agree with everyone else here, 9 did technically save them by freeing the souls of the others when they were trapped, which did, in a way, help bring life back. Souls are energy, after all, and energy helps bring life about in the first place. Even from the universe's beginning, energy kept everything going. When just about all life died, the overall energy of Earth came to a standstill. No plants or animals are shown in the area that we see during the movie, so it's as if the Emptiness is a place where everything has come to a halt. So when the souls were released, energy was released back, so life started up again... I could go on and on about that stuff (and I might expand on that in a one-shot)! And I like the phrase "Soul Rain"!

1: sometimes, one must be sacrificed for the good of many (or in this case, five of them) ^^; *shot*
But never more true did 1's words ring until after the rain begn to fall...

It's depressing to think that it required some characters to die, in order to start the rain and restart life. However, I think it's MORE depressing to think that once 9, 7, and the twins eventually passed on as well, that would be it. No life, ever again. Done. Atleast with the ending we got, they could Shepard in the new life (like Adam and Eve, as some people pointed out).

I think I've said it somewhere here before, but I don't believe that the rain or life required the stitchpunks to die - wouldn't that be counter-productive? Against every thing the Scientist was striving for?
I believe that 9 was supposed to find the box and the message, open the Talisman, and release the life essence within. It just so happened that the Talisman doubled as a . . . soul container? Soul holder? And when he opened it, it released both the souls and the life essence. You can see the little bacteria floating up out of it during the entire Release scene. The look like little sparkles, and it's pretty. X3 *shot*

Indeed, indeed... maybe the souls helped carry that up to the clouds, thus making the storm start so suddenly XD

I never thought this Socky. I never thought that, dying they had been freed a prisoner of worst the Sanctuary and the total control of 1: themselves. However the ending always leaves me a big lump in throat. It a long time since I have a feeling like that. Thanks Mr. Acker But I disagree with Anubi for 7. Not completely. I agree that without 9, she would not have softened... But 9 has also freed she his killer instinct (as he said Acker) making the return Stitchpunk who had known. 5 was, in my opinion, himself a prisoner of his fears and therefore was unable to defend themselves. 9 probably just reminded him something which allowed him to follow him even knowing it was dangerous. think he has been reminded what is trust: to others ( 2 ) and and themselves (In final)
