I was thinking to myself today, 6 seems to show the signs of Asperger's Syndrome (I have it too, could this be why he's one of my favorite characters?).
For those of you who don't know, Asperger's Syndrome is a form of autism that mainly effects the person's social aspects.
Here's the Asperger's traits that 6 has shown during the movie:
~Tends to keep to himself. ~Soft spoken demeanor. ~High knowledge in his obsession (the Source). ~Unable to look people well in the eye (Notice in his first speaking line, he cowers behind the paper after he shows it to 9). ~Strong attachment to a familar object (his key).
It's been said on a few sites that his voice actor, Crispin Glover is also an Aspie, and that Tim Burton (who his design is inspired on) is too, so could this have inspired his personality?

Hell yeah!
I realized that he really has an obsession, and his social skills suck.
I musst say that I'm an Aspie too, but I'm able to look people in the eyes, but I do have some obesssions, have problems with making contact, and I'm soft spoken.

Golly, that's a real well-founded idea... I've thought he had autism for a while, after I did a report on some severely autistic artist, but this just about clinches it with the specifics. That's really interesting! ;D

6 an Aspie? Nah, he wouldn't be so cryptic. Aspies are very specific, to the point of tactlessness-they tell you everything, even if they have a hard time speculating what others are thinking.
I'm thinkin' more along the lines of temporal lobe epilepsy. He has all these visions, but he can't put them into sentences, so he scribbles them out.
:Fixed for temporal LOBE epilepsy: Ghnnngh!! X.

Wow, Zoo-zoo, that's a really good predicament. I mean, my mom even told me that after the film that 6 reminded her of a person with autism. And holy crap! Crispin and Tim both are Aspies?? No wonder they have a constant irritating and timid sounding tones in their voices when they talk!

Well, I'm apparently LIKE I have aspergers syndrome, (my parents had me monitored for like half a year when I was little to find out if I was. XP) but I suppose it's possible that 6 might have it.... though I have a few things of my own opinion that could mean otherwise... ~Tends to keep to himself. He could also just have an introverted personality, or possibly there was some abuse going on from 1 earlier that we don't know about so he's more nervous now. ~Soft spoken demeanor. Once again, could be due to a quiet personality, I have one like that irl, so it's not impossible... ~High knowledge in his obsession (the Source). Actually, to me it seemed like he didn't know anything about it except that it was important and what it looked like... I would chock that up to prophetic visions that it seems that he has.... ~Unable to look people well in the eye (Notice in his first speaking line, he cowers behind the paper after he shows it to 9). That could be because he thought 9 would think he was crazy too, or just babbling nonsense (as 1 would put it) ~Strong attachment to a familar object (his key). Well, wasn't he... you know, created with it? Sentimentality for it could be pretty easy since it's pretty much the only thing that he's ever owned... That's just my opinion on why he might not be. I dunno.

Heh, I remember similar theories being brought up for Wybie from Coraline and Flint From Cloudy with A Chance of Meatballs. XD And I have to say that there was a fair amount of evidence to back those theories up... even though it was also pretty unlikely or unintended on their creator's part, lol.
But I'm surprised no one has brought or thought this up with 6 until now, as he shows some very, VERY obvious signs... Hmmm... I gotta admit it, you're on to something, Zooty! It really does seem to match!
The only thing that doesn't fit with him however, is that he isn't extremely specific about his knowledge on his obsessions (the source,) and that he isn't intent on having a structured, daily routine - something that many aspies need in order to get themselves through the day. But other than that, it seems very likely that Shane, Tim, etc. intended for him to "have" it, or were at least trying to imply it... Well, maybe. lol.
And I didn't know that Crispin or Tim were aspies. Well... okay, I've always speculated that Tim might be an aspie - but not Crispin. I think Crispin just likes being... well, weird. But these are just rumors, right? Not actual facts, I presume?

I kinda thought 6 could have something similar to Asperger's or High-Functioning Autism...I discussed this with my Mom a few months ago, and she said that ''Everyone has a little bit of Asperger's/Autism, and 6 just got the part of the Scientist's soul that had it."
Of course, my brother has Asperger's, and acts nothing like 6. Except for the bit about knowledge of a certain obsession (for 6's it's the source, and for Alek it's Trains)
I know some people with Asperger's/Autism suffer from epilepsy, but I'm not sure if the two are related or if they just happen to have both.

Epilepsy is something completely different. Some schoolmates of mine have epilepsy. That means that you're a little 'off' sometimes. Some people fall on the ground when they got an attack, but others look just like they're daydreaming. Gizmo: 6 does have a daily routine before the cathedrale burns down. Drawing 'The Source' all day long is a routine as well

Huh, this is actually a really interesting thought. I think you may be right-- pretty cool that you brought it up! [/size]

I agree. I'm not an Aspie, but my brother is, and he shows a lot of obvious signs for the disorder (except the high knowledge of the obsession...I think "the Source" was just his name for the image that kept recurring in his mind and drawings. He didn't seem to know much else about it.)
But he could also just be introverted. Like the twins.

Well, the knowledge bit might not be entirely true. It could be that 6 DOES know everything about what the Source is, who it represents, how that person connects to their situation, etc... it just so happens that he can't express it to the others due to his lack of vocal communication skills. As for the routine, we only saw him very briefly before 9 comes in and turns the Stitchpunks life in the Cathedral upside down, which would effectively ruin whatever routine he did have... but then again, his routine may have consisted solely of drawing the Source. So, who knows?

Heh. Knowing how I have Asperger Syndrome myself, I'm surprised I didn't notice. But yeah. I think he is.
