I don't get WHY you put the Cat Beast clip. The reason why is hidden in black writing because it contains spoilers. Sort of. Then you didn't need to write it down. What does it say? If you want to tell me tell me here or send me a Private Message.

I wonder if the rag dolls would be able to die without getting their souls sucked out? If so, I wonder what sort of rag doll-related ways could contribute to their deaths...

I wonder if the rag dolls would be able to die without getting their souls sucked out? If so, I wonder what sort of rag doll-related ways could contribute to their deaths... Well, 5 ran up to 2 when he was in the cage, and thought he was dead when his head rolled to the side... so they can apperently be injured enough to die from it, or something along those lines. Also, to answer one of my older questions... I guess they CAN get water on them. They did at the end of the movie, without incident. XD

I do think while they might not be waterproof, their inner parts may be protected. What inner parts run them, in any case.
As far as sleeping? I'm an old-skool Transformers fan, so my theory lies with the recharge or rest cycle. their designs may have some internal clocking mechanism that winds down and they need to "power down" for an unspecified period of time to allow tired systems a chance to catch up with them.
I don't actually think they need to eat, though the thought of them drinking oil is interesting. It could be a form of lubricant to keep their internal gears running smoothly...?
THEN we come down to death.
If there's a human soul in those little bodies... wouldn't that technically mean that being "injured" to the point of being completely nonfunctional would render them dead? It's pretty much what happens to the human body anyway.

I'd say them being able to "sleep" is pretty much a given... or at least a generally agreed on fanon at this point. Water, I always assumed since they seem to be running on freaking deus ex machina anyway (SOUL POWER YEEEEAAAH!) water probably wouldn't have much of an effect.
The oil thing is an interesting thought and one I think is probable... plus it allows for fun things to write/draw so why not?
As for pain, I think they can feel pain regardless of where they're hit. 9 seemed hurt when his shoulder got sliced and 7 looked pained when she got the barb in her leg and all.
Annnd thus I was done contributing my pointless two cents.

Perhaps 'pain' could be conceived of as a broken circuit or motion detector? The thought of any physical sensation in abiotic creatures is an old controversy. *GHOSTINTHESHELL* But it's clear that, no matter how it works, they do have some concept of pain, as well as tiredness.
It would be a little presumptuous to say that the Talisman is the only thing that can truly kill them; if that were the case, they wouldn't have to be so cautious in trying to keep themselves in one piece. Though the stichpunks are very resilient (they don't heal, they're repaired. Remember how quickly 7 began running on a badly damaged leg?) this doesn't make them invulnerable. I think that there has to be a certain threshold of damage that they're capable of sustaining without it becoming permanent or fatal.
As for the subject of water, it would be a critical flaw of design if they weren't somehow waterproof. That being said, I highly doubt that they could swim, and being submerged couldn't be good for their little metal frames. But a little rain isn't going to kill them.

Actually, I have the artbook for the movie, and one of the images shows the insides of 9... All the mechanical parts are covered by a layer of soft, thick fabric of some kind (I want to say a quilt). So getting rained on, or splashed, probably won't do anything but make them soggy.

Well, they're made of mechanical parts and cloth, so something could wear out, or the cloth could rot away. That could conceivably do it for them.

On the subject of pain? Remember, friends, after 7 pwns the Cat Beast, 2 goes over and kicks it, thus resulting him in hopping on one leg holding his toe. I believe they would feel pain.
Here's something with the oil factor. Would their little bodies get clogged up with any excess oil/grease from their cogs and wheels? if that were the case, I guess they may need a cleaning out of sorts... >.>

Puffindarf is right. Any mechanical pieces would need to be oiled and maintained. Replacement parts would become necessary over time. -Which brings to mind another question: is there a point where a ragdoll's parts can become so corroded and rusted over that they would be impossible to fix?

They probably do need to replace some of their mechanical parts, over time... and the fabrics. So they would probably just use whatever they find around the world they live in (which 2 and others had done already, to a smaller degree).
If you think about it, over a long period of time, the stitchpunks might even start to look different because of the parts/fabrics they use, or slowly modify themselves to be taller, and stuff. XD Their main power source seems to be the piece of soul inside of them, so if they kept up with the modifications and repairs to their body... they could probably last a very long time.

I thought that too. If they kept up repairing themselves, overtime they'd come to look very different. The question is, would they want to live that long?

True, PokemonEater. That's an old fear about indefinite lifespans; it becomes a frightening prospect after a while. But it just seems the they have some parts that are too complex to replaced easily... If at all. Look at the optics. Those are some extremely delicate, intricate little pieces of machinery. Some of their internal parts (processors? microchips?) would also degrade over time, and it may be very difficult to find new ones.
