If you were shane and wanted to change the ending to the short how would you change it? When 9 was walking away in the very end and it showed the soul sucker I would have had the soul sucker open up and glow. Anymore ways to change it if you wanted to?

This is pretty ominous/mysterious/weird...
But I would've had 9 smile that he set all the souls free, turn around, and walk away. Then when the talisman is shown, I would've shown 5's freed soul pick it up, and take it to whatever world he's going to next, so that he could remember 9. That way, 9 remembers 5 through his light-bulb staff, and 5 remembers 9 with the talisman.

I would have 9 actually destroy the talisman once all the souls are released, so that it can never be used for evil again.

I'm thinking that 9 should've taken the tailsman with him, and use it againts the other machines somehow.

I'm not sure Shane's original concept of the short even involved the presence of other machines... He describes the story of the short with "humans destroyed themselves." The Cat Beast and stitch-punks rose from the ashes of humanity, as opposed to being intentionally being created by someone, and were symbolic of mankind's many qualities. The beast, of course, was man's primal, inhuman side, while the stitch-punks represented what it meant to be a human, and the beast was stealing their souls and bodies in order to make itself into one of them. The fact that so much focus is placed upon the Cat Beast and the stitch-punk's struggle against it, I don't believe there were any other machines present...
OH! Sorry Sora... I was ranting. Nice idea! ;D

Weeeell...
At the end of the short, when 9 is gazing thoughtfully at the scrap of cloth with the 5 on it, the talisman starts to glow behind him. For several seconds, I was horrified.
Because I thought it was reacting to the presence of another Catskull beast-- one that was still alive, that 9 hadn't known about, that was COMING TOWARD HIM.
It would not be a very happy ending, but it would be a twist. After all the fear and grief and effort it took to kill that one machine, 9 is dismayed to realize there are others. And they are still very much alive, and they are headed for him.

Ugh... That would be a truly horrifying plot twist. I could imagine the Seamstress's arms, while the rest of the body is obscured, suddenly bursting from the darkness and dragging 9 to the depths of despair...
The end. *shudders*

Personally, after all the souls were freed from the talisman, I would have had 9 throw it into the fire he made, and watch it melt away... and then have that scene where he's walking away into the sunset.

Heres a silly ending. When 9 was waling away at the end he turns around and starts singing "On the road again"-nelson

My idea for another ending seems a bit dark...
The Cat Beast turns out to still be alive, with the plank impaling his arm instead of its torso, and climbs out of the hole of its presumed death, and it manages to find the talisman in the ground.
It then walks off into the desolate landscape, on the hunt for the last rag doll.
Fun cliffhanger don't you think?

I just watched this twice in a row--I'd never seen it before for fear of ruining something from the movie for myself. It was breathtaking the first time. I've never had any kind of gut reaction to a short film before but my heart was racing. The second time it was even better, but much sadder now that I had a frame of refrence for 9's expressions/feelings.
I think I would have maybe had one of the souls 9 freed make the choice to follow him, perhaps number 5 since they were the established characters in the short. I would have liked some indication that 9 hadn't been alone. *sniffle*

That, and I was wondering how a wooden plank would kill a machine that mean and nasty.
