Okies, I'm not sure if this goes in his character thread or not...oh well, here we go! ^^
Alright, I'm sure you all know that 9 is not the strongest or fastest of the bunch. But I think he displays some feats in the movie that show his athleticism...
1) When he picks up a piece of metal-tool-thingy almost as big as he is and uses it to smack 2 upside the head
2) When he slams 7's spear into the plane wing to keep them from sliding/falling... He must have stabbed it in there pretty dang hard for it to hold him, 7, and 1...
3) When he leaps high in the air to slash open the Seamstress Also, if anyone has seen the show Mythbusters, they did a pirate myths epeisode with Tori trying to slash a ship sail by sliding down it with his knife cutting the sail. He couldn't hang onto the knife, so for 9 to hang on and keep splitting the Seamstress open all the way down...he must have a heck of a grip!
4) Also, 9 ran across half the city and through the Emptiness twice within what might have been the span of an hour in the movie timeline...pretty impressive for only being 7-8 inches tall ^^
5) And finally, to hang onto the (most likely) burning-hot Talisman that blasted a hole into the FabMac's head and not get blown backwards (or shaken to pieces) himself is quite a feat of endurance/strength on his part...
Perhaps he's not so "weak" after all ^^

Okay, now I have a mental image of 9 in a Superman outfit!

I'd never really thought about it, but it does make sense now that you mention it... He's certainly a tough little guy.

My thoughts on how to explain this stuff...
I think 7's spear was stabbed into a bullet hole on the plane, so the metal was already softer. Maybe it's not, but I always thought that.
The Seamstress isn't exactly the most securely made of creations, and has parts of it kept together with safety pins, so it would probably be easier to tear in comparison to a sail that has to withstand the elements.
When you say he ran halfway across the city within an hour, is that about the end when he leaves to go to the first room and then finding the others fighting the machine? I always thought that took him most of the day, because it's probably dawn when he goes off by himself, and when he finds the others its darker and more like early evening.
These are just my own thoughts on the issue, but it would be kind of awesome if 9 had the strength of Superman.

Why hasn't Clover commented on this yet? XD She'd be willing to stand up for her Niney-kins! *shot*
At any rate, I'm on Vance's side of the fence for this one. If you take a look at 9, he's not exactly your scrawny main guy. He's the second tallest (tied in place with 1) and has a similiar build to 5 (who, we all agree, is by no means "skinny").
I think he does have a bit of strength in him. ^^ I think he couldn't outfight 7, for example, but I think he could outwrestle her.
Watch my sis jump on this, now . . .

I would say that 9 is particularly strong for his size, but all the others seemed to be strong for their size as well. Case in point, 7. She's smaller than 9 and just as strong, easily.
Perhaps the scientist knew that they would need to be strong for their size and made their mechanisms work so they would be strong for their size?
Then again, Shadow does have a point brining up his physique. Though I think 7 could whup his ass in anything. XD

I had the same thought about the Seamstress, Mokyn. ^^ And I didn't mean that he was strong enough to stab the spear into the metal, but how deeply he stabbed it that it was able to hold three of them from falling down...not to mention the Winged Beast grabbed 1's cape and pulled on the little stitch chain too... Heh, since we're on this point, might I say that 7 has a hell of a tough leg to hold all that weight? XD

Well, you do need to remember that these characters are mechanical, and have metal skeletons and such. They never really went into much detail as to what the characters are made of, so based on all the stuff 9's done that you mentioned, his skeleton must've been made with some hella strong metal! XD [/size]

MUSCULARNESS!!! *flexes* YEAH! No, but seriously, ever since I really got into the movie, I never did think of 9 as "scrawny". XD He's certainly not that big, like 8, or small, like 6. He's kinda in between. ^^ *pokes fingers together* Plus, since he's my favorite, and I'm a fangirl, I probably imagined him a little more tough then he should've been. >///< So, thank you, Vance, for proving my point! >

I think they're all pretty strong for their size, mainly because they have metal skeletons, instead of bone or something more easily broken. I'm pretty sure 8 is the only one who can chuck a kitchen knife, though

Yeah, 8's probably the only who could pull that off. XD If any of the others tried it, they'd wind up falling over backwards.
Which brings me to the question . . . why is 8 so muscular? Surely his "bones" aren't shaped like UFC arms, so what's giving them that shape? Cotton? XD

don't forget about how 7 was able to pry train tracks up with her spear. That's not even a matter of leverage there, train tracks are hard to take out even if you have tons of leverage...

Dernit, Vance....now I have a sudden urge to refer to 9 as Supern00b.

don't forget about how 7 was able to pry train tracks up with her spear. That's not even a matter of leverage there, train tracks are hard to take out even if you have tons of leverage... The train tracks were pretty much screwed up and weren't connecting so it was possible for her to pry the train tracks. Which brings me to the question . . . why is 8 so muscular? Surely his "bones" aren't shaped like UFC arms, so what's giving them that shape? Cotton? XD Maybe the Scientist thought, "I need a strong guard for this little group, so I shall put in bits of the corpses' muscles in this brute!" <----------- I just came back from the beach, so blame my random mind!

But they were still holding the BRAIN up somewhat so they were still pried to the ground. And someone as small as 7 by all logic shouldn't be able to pry it up by herself, whether or not all the tracks are connected. >.<
