HEY! Don't be knocking Cats Don't Dance, it's better than most Disney films made in the last decade XD I loooooooooooooooove that movie. Anyway, *ahem* I was listening to A Couple of Cold Ones with Korey and Carlyle on Spill.com today, and they were talking about 9 being #2 on the top five. Now in their opinion, $15.3 mil is a disappointing number for something that had Tim Burton's name on it, but they admitted that this movie was always going to be a bit of a tough sell. They said that time would tell if this was a success or not. I trust them as the only critics I listen to. This is not good news

On a slightly related note, my favorite animated movie of all time (Cats Don't Dance) cost roughly $32,000,000 to make, and only made about $3,562,749 in theatres. XD lol fail Oh, Anna...always falling in love with failures. ;D ... Something tells me I should rephrase that. Hey! Only I'm allowed to insult you! <3 As for 9 making a ton of money... I doubt it. They'll probably make back what they spent on it, but not a whole lot more than that. The PG-13 rating, coupled with the fact that it's not a Disney film, kind of knocked it down from the get-go.

Another victim of poor promotion. It still surprises me that Scott Bakula did the voice and singing for Danny...I never knew him to be that talented (first thing I ever saw him in was Major League: Back to the Minors...he was so AWFUL XD)

*chanting* "We're number 2! We're number 2! We're number 2!* Second in the box office is still pretty good. Honestly, I was expecting it to do worse, so that's good news for the time being. And on the note of "Cats don't Dance", I friggin' loved that movie. C'mon, Gene Kelly worked on it as a choreographer before he passed away. GENE KELLY, PEOPLE!!!

#2, NOT BAD!!!
Better than I thought it would be considering that 9 is the second animated feature Focus Features distributed.
And that it's Shane Acker's first Feature Film
SQUEE! Finally something not Dreamworks (no offense to any Dreamworks fan) at the Top 10 on the Box Office!

This is not good news I think it's poor promo (like you said) & a lack of movie theaters playing it, because there is a couple people on the Wall-E forum who have talked about wanting to see 9, but it wasn't playing in a movie theater near them, so they couldn't see it. & also, this is a tough movie to market someone to. & plus, they can always make more money during the time it's in theaters, I know, if it's a movie I want to see (not a movie I want to see badly, but I movie I want to see) I usually wait 2 weeks or so to go see it to beat the crowd.

Update! In its second week, 9 finished sixth place with about $5.5 million...just under 50 percent down from last weekend. Obviously not a spectacular haul by any means, though you have to consider a few factors: 1) Four new releases playing to all demographics 2) One of the new films is an animated film (in 3D) 3) The box office as a whole was pretty weak Among the holdovers, 9 still placed second overall. Also, it had the third highest opening of the eight new releases over the past two weeks, despite having the least screens (though that could change if The Informant! does better than the estimates). EDIT/UPDATE: Weekend actuals show that 9 actually did slightly better than estimated, adding about $100,000 to its Sunday totals. Personally, I was expecting at least $5 million for the second weekend.
