I just checked my good and trusty BoxOfficeMojo.com to see what 9 has done in the Box Office. Keep in mind that it is estimated that it cost them around $33,000,000 to make. In total. Since 9/9/09. 9 has made... $15,744,741 domestically AND $17,100,670 worldwide. In spot #2, placed right after #1: Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself and above #3: Inglorious Bastards. In under a week, 9 has made almost HALF of it's budget up! According to Wikipedia, it managed this: "On opening day, the film made #1 with $3,115,775" but I couldn't back it up... looks ok to me though! Wiki also says Gross Revenue is $9,100,929, so I'm guessing that they are having updating slowness for that... Does this sound right? Opening weekend total: $10,740,446 (Just weekend, not weekdays) For more stats, check this link for the 9 page: www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=9.htmHere is the weekend page: www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/EDIT for 9/16/09- Domestic total as of 9/14: $15,744,741 Total in all for 9/14: $17,100,670 Still #2.

Looks good so far! Hopefully it'll make it's budget up by the end of the week or in two weeks. After that, then 9 could be making big profit money.
If 9 makes good money, then we'll probably get a sequel or a prequel, if Shane is willing to continue on in expanding his world and ideas. I think he wants to, because when I met with him, he said he was already pitching up ideas for the sequel. He said that if 9 didn't do well, then the sequel would never leave pre-production, but if it did good, he hoped he'd be able to continue working on this film.
9 looks like it has a promising future thus far! People are loving the new and exciting, yet dark and apocalyptic edge this movie takes on. They want to see more character development, rather than just an introduction to the world and story... Hopefully it'll be on high demand and we'll see more of Shane soon. ^^ He's an awesome director.
Go 9!

Where does it say that it cost $33 mil to make?
Because to earn back half the money it cost to make it in four days is IMPRESSIVE. It's not like Pirates of the Carribbean impressive, but that is NOT a bad opening for an independant film, even with Tim Burton's name on it. Keep in mind that a lot of people have never of Shane Acker or the short this is based on. And this is basically an animated horror film. There haven't been a whole lot of PG-13 animated movies since animation was founded, and hardly any of THOSE have made it to the big screen like 9 has. Only one I can think of is the South Park movie, but that had the popularity of SP behind it. There wasn't a lot of things going for this movie, let's be honest. You had Tim and Timur's name, and the impressiveness of the visuals, but the regular population won't know what to do with this movie. So the fact that it made that much money is VERY promising. And in front of Inglorious Basterds?! AWESOME.

Well number9000, I looked around seeing $33,000,000 on Wiki and IMDB as an estimate and saw something stating that as well.
However, this was about 3 weeks ago and I have yet to find that source again...
Even when you think of all the stuff against the movie, over 10 million in the first 4 days is GREAT. I mean, I expected like... 8 mill on the first few days. But this is just... woah!
And 15 mill over all is just something I never fathomed for something as small as this. It is WAY bigger than a lot of people thought.

Great news!
Though while I'm not sure about the sequel idea if they make enough profit to warrant one. I wouldn't really mind it, though.

I'm thinking it needs to do better than $50-$60 mil for them to think it a good idea to sponsor a sequel.

I'm thinking it needs to do better than $50-$60 mil for them to think it a good idea to sponsor a sequel. Considering sequels have been green-lit for films before they were even RELEASED, you never know. In some cases, it might be more a matter of what kind of legs the company thinks a franchise has. Anyway, seems 9 did as expected...the predictions I saw had it looking at 5th place with nine million (lol, 9), but thanks to Whiteout and Sorority Row tanking, plus the extra million, that gave it 2nd place instead. What I'm really curious about is how well it will hold up in its second week...

Pretty impressive draw, when you think about it. 9 is such an underdog movie--it's directed by a no-name--no one who wasn't already into animation would remember the name Shane Acker from back in '05. I certainly didn't. Then there's the dark/scary-animation paradox, and the mixed bag of reviews from the beginning. I hope this impressive first week bodes well for the rest of 9's (hopefully lengthy) run. While I'm not sure how I feel about a sequel/prequel, I am interested and I do want Shane to succeed and get his greenlight. I want to see how he grows in his art and I desperately want to know what else is out there in that bleakly fascinating world of 9. Also...I agree with 9000. 9: 1, Basterds: 0. HOW SMASHING IS THAT? To be fair, I quite liked both movies, albeit in very different ways. It just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to know that animated ragdolls in this little movie that could can beat out THE Quentin Tarentino.

We're gonna be dropped into the heart of machine-occupied Germany. We'll be doin' one thing and one thing only: Killing Cat Skulls. 9: YES SIR! 1: The Fabrication machine has wiped out the human race through murder, torture, intimidation, and soul sucking. And that's EXACTLY what we're gonna do to them. *EPIC MUSIC* 1: The Fabrication Machine ain't GOT no soul, and they need to be destroyed! Each and every Stitchpunk under my command owes me 100 Seamstress heads.....AND I WANT MY HEADS. Sound good? All: SIR YES SIR!!

I'm seeing it a third time on Tuesday or Wednesday XD I've pretty much required that all my irl friends watch this movie. I couldn't BRIBE my parents to go watch an animated film, sadly.
However, the movie probably will make less $$$ the second week, and beyond. Not BAD or anything, just not as much as the first week, when most people went to see it.
On a slightly related note, my favorite animated movie of all time (Cats Don't Dance) cost roughly $32,000,000 to make, and only made about $3,562,749 in theatres. XD lol fail

If I can convince my parents to let me drive the hour and a half I'm totally going to watch 9 at least twice more, hopefull I'll be able to see it 9 times in theaters XD.
