So, okay, I've been watching the RT ratings of '9' for a couple of weeks now, and since the film is going to be widely released tomorrow, I figured I'd break it down for y'all so we can all take a gander at the numbers. Cause we're not a bunch of geeks, or anything >.>
8/18- '9' started out with a very promising 75% with 3 fresh reviews and 1 rotten review
8/20- Another fresh review ups the percentage to 80% with 4 fresh reviews and 1 rotten.
8/21- Another fresh review FTW! The numbers now stand at 5 fresh reviews and 1 rotten, leaving '9' with a healthy 83.3%
9/01- After a bit of a gap with no new reviews, another fresh review was added. There are now 6 fresh reviews and one lonely rotten review, making the percentage 85.71%
9/05- EEK! A singular rotten review drops the percentage to 75%
9/06- Whew, a fresh review saves the day. '9' now stands at 77.7% with 7 fresh reviews and 2 rotten reviews.
9/07- I'm sorry to say it, but this was NOT a good day for '9'. A whopping 4 rotten reviews were added, with 1 fresh review coming in at the rear. There are now 6 rotten reviews and 8 fresh reviews, making '9' 57.1% fresh! OH NOES
9/08- (EDITED 9/09 12:07am) WHEW! It was a busy day for '9'! By midnight 9/09, 36 new reviews had been added, 21 of which were fresh. There are now 34 fresh reviews and 23 rotten reviews, making '9' 60% fresh.
Another development to RT's '9' page is an official consensus (a bit premature, if you ask me). "Although its story is perhaps too familiar and less complex than some might wish, 9 is visually spectacular, and director Shane Acker's attention to detail succeeds in drawing viewers into the film's universe."
Personally, with the way things are going, I'm projecting the percentage will eventually settle between 55-65%. But I'm kind of a cynic, so I might be off. Almost all of the reviews, rotten ones included, are siting the films visual beauty as a major strength, so that may be enough to bring in more fresh reviews and knock '9' up to 65%-70%
But whoooo knoooows *wiggly mystical fingers
Addendum: On a recommendation from BaneReiko, I checked out the RT community reviews and HOLY CRAP! It's rated at 86%! In a world where the power of word of mouth via texting and Twitter is growing all the time, this is AWESOME news for '9'! Could an unexpectedly healthy box-office return be on the horizon? I sure hope so!
9/9: I was actually expecting more reviews on 9/9/09, but apparently not. It was a very good day none the less, with 18 fresh reviews (and one from 9/8 that snuck in after I counted) and 10 rotten reviews. By Midnight 9/10, the percentage was about 62-63% (no, I don't like rounding).
*smug face* Thus far my prediction of a rating between 55%-65% is looking to be correct, but I'm actually looking forward to having my expectations exceeded over the first weekend
Speaking of exceeded expectations: The community reviews? WOW, you guys. As of right friggin' now we're looking at 145 fresh reviews out of 179. That's 81%! Squee!
