Does anyone know: In the end, the soul of 5 nods to 9 - he does that to say ''thanks'' or to say "hey 9 it's me, 5, your friend"? Mr. Acker sez: "So it’s sort of bittersweet that the last time they come together is the last time that each world will ever be together. And that’s what 5 does when he turns around and acknowledges 9. He acknowledges this sort of thing that 9 has done by putting himself in extreme danger to do this one little act which is to save them and let them go on to whatever place they’re going on to next."

Warning! This post may be 100% consisted of fangirl squee. You have been warned!
I love the short for its innovations. As far as I know, the most favourite part of the character's face in American animation is mouth. An articulation is pretty realistic there. It's opposite to Japanese animation, where articulation is pretty abstract and the main part of the body're character's eyes. I admit, Disney characters have pretty big eyes, but mouth still has bogger role. So, at first, 9 is different from most American movies for using eyes as the most important thing to show emotions. And stylizing. I've heard from lots of people that CG is dead, CG looks wooden, that people do CG films just for money and that only puppets could be good. So, in short, 9 characters design is unexpected and creative one, mostly because Shane didn't make disney and WB drawn characters 3D, as most CG animators do, he made absolutely cool characters, who're not talking animals or photorealistic humans. More to come...

I really REALLY REALLY want that final sequence to be the end of the movie. I will die from fanboy squee if it happens.

The part when he walks off to the frontier unknown, leaving behind the soul canister? AMAZING!

Well, it would certainly keep true to the short if 9 were to be the only survivor... But some characters would be very hard to lose. Having the twins die in the film would be pretty tragic... They might survive with 9, but I'm hoping they don't. They're obviously the most innocent of the stitch-punks, and I love tearing up when tragic things happen to innocent characters...
