Entry 48 is incredibly long (as in, 5-10 times as long as most others), dull and pointless, so I'll just get the point across. The Chancellor and his bodyguard die, the Machine gives the order to eliminate all humans via poison gas before it is deactivated by the Scientist, who is given two gas masks that save him from the fumes. Entries 49 and 50 have been translated by Erkur here, for which I would like to thank him.

Wow. I like it. I hope I get a chance to see the Russian version at some point, it sounds way better than the American one, though I think it's possible they'll go all cliche and have the ending be too happy

From what I can tell so far, I think I'll like both versions of the movie! Thanks to everyone who helped translate it! <3
However, I think the films are going to have opposite problems. XD While Shane and Tim didn't elaborate enough on the characters, and backstory, I think that Timur might overdo it with the details. But hey, if fans can find a happy medium between the two versions, then I'm game.

Does the Russian version describe the creation of 1-9 in different journal entries, like in the US version?

No, it develops them as their human equivalents throughout the story, and then the Scientist dedicates portions of his soul to each in the final entry. Quite emotional.
I find that it worked much better than separate mini intros for each.
Also, I'm adding my revisions of Erkur's translation of entries 49-50 before the thread on IMDb goes 404.

*whipes tears away* That was beautiful. So the doctor became 5 then. I see the similarities between the doctor crawling out to help wounded survivors and 5 going out to help 9. And 7 is motherly to 3 and 4 because she really is their mother. The Chancellor and his body guard, how interesting. And then poor Conrad. I can't quite fit him to 6 but oh well.
Thanks once again Dimi. *exalts*

Why is this so different from the American one? Why was it even allowed to be altered so much? Not that I am complainijng. It was very interesting

It was very interesting I've read that on pre-screenings Russian reviewers were quite puzzled and did not understand some plot turns and all. So Bekmambetov have brought up an idea of Russian version of the movie to make 9 more understandable for Russian people.

Wait so what all happened in Entry 48? how did the scientist's family die? Dimitroff've given short plot of the 48th entry. What about the death of the Scientist's family, his wife and kids have died from poisonous gas.

Man, I wish I could understand Russian & fly to Russia to watch the 9 Russian version. I wish Acker & Burton went into more elabrate detail with the characters in the 9 plot, while Timur gives us alot of info, that he could of put in the movie itself, but I can see why he did what he did.

The chronicalogical sense of this journal baffles me. 65 years old and he has 3 year old twin boys? I dunno, something about these entries seem... off to me. The whole backstory is relatively different. Sure it gives a more personal and emotional touch but it doesn't seem to sit right. And why are there two different versions in the first place? It's Shane Ackers story and movie... did I miss that memo somewhere?

Does anybody know when the Russian version is coming to theaters over there??? And will it come to the US??? Probably not, I'm guessing, but I would like to see how different it is from the original! I've never heard of anyone doing something like this with a film.
The backstory seems so much more in depth and I really liked it but it does seem to be a little much for an 1hr. and 20 min. film. I like that the Scientist has a family and he uses them and close friends and two other people (The Chancellor and his bodyguard = 1 and 8!) to make the ragdolls. I'm not exactly sure how he plans to do that though. Is he going to actually kill his own wife and children just to transfer their souls into the dolls?! Oh and I can't figure out who 6's human counterpart is supposed to be! I know the kind doctor is 2, Joseph is most likely 5, the Scientist is 9 (I think), so is Conrad going to be 6?! His personality doesn't fit 6 at all! Anyway, it will be very interesting to see how fans of the US and Russia respond to having 2 different versions of the same movie. Hmmm, I wonder who the voice actors will be for the characters?

The chronicalogical sense of this journal baffles me. 65 years old and he has 3 year old twin boys? Lol, that's the point! But what if he's not 65 years old. What if he's fiftish or something and giving his soul to stitchpunks exhausted him and made him looking older? And why are there two different versions in the first place? It's Shane Ackers story and movie... did I miss that memo somewhere? Scroll up a little bit - I've written this before. Does anybody know when the Russian version is coming to theaters over there??? And will it come to the US??? Probably not, I'm guessing, but I would like to see how different it is from the original! I've never heard of anyone doing something like this with a film. Russian version was intended for Russia only. That means that it won't be available in the USA. The Scientist in this version using his soul for stitchpunks, but he dedicates each soul part for a person he was close to. He does that for people to let them finish their duties: for his wife and kids to let them live and for the Chancellor to reform. Oh and I can't figure out who 6's human counterpart is supposed to be! I know the kind doctor is 2, Joseph is most likely 5, the Scientist is 9 (I think), so is Conrad going to be 6?! His personality doesn't fit 6 at all! Joseph is 2. The doctor is 5. Conrad is 6. Anyway, it will be very interesting to see how fans of the US and Russia respond to having 2 different versions of the same movie. Most people treat the idea of Russian version negaively, like: "What, do they think that we're not smart enough to understand US version?" "Why I have to suffer because of some producer being 'creative'? ...And such. But some people admitted that Russian version wasn't as bad as they excpected. Really, movie translators are always hated, hated beforehand. Voice actors: 9: Constantin Khabensky - played main characters in Night Watch, Day Watch and Wanted. You know, Khabensky for Bekmambetov is like Johny Depp for Tim Burton. 8: Vladimir Turchinsky 7: Tutta Larsen 6: Alexandr Pushnoy 5: Guf - rapper. 2: Valery Zolotukin - was in Night Watch and Day watch as well. 1: Gennady Khzanov
