I didn't think he was a whiny bitch, either. XD To me, he came off as more frustrated with everyone; He wanted to go get things done, but the others were all questioning him, and his intentions.
EDIT: I did find it funny when he was riding around the music box, though... and then fell over. XD His pose just amused me.

I thought he was a bit whiny, but not THAT much.
I think being in that coma killed a few common sense braincells though! He means well, but he just doesn't seem to know when to quit.
Still liked him.

Common-sense is something that comes with experience. I've had quite a good life, and I admit I screw up all the time because I didn't think first (ESPECIALLY in the case of Mum and my sister).

Hey, could the reason 9 didn't wake up be because he was still hooked up to the talisman?
I mean, all the others were disconnected before waking up (that's what I gather from the journals), but 9 was connected for... possibly YEARS and right after he was disconnected he woke up.

That sounds about right... Because he woke up after it fell off him, and it went rolling across the floor Either that, or the scientist being killed caused some sort of "energy backlash" and it took 9 a while to get out of his sleeping state. Or perhaps a bit of both XD

He's a whiny bitch mixed with a hero who's way too rash. ( In less then a week he killed 5 of them...) SRSLYWTF!?!??! Hey, could the reason 9 didn't wake up be because he was still hooked up to the talisman? I mean, all the others were disconnected before waking up (that's what I gather from the journals), but 9 was connected for... possibly YEARS and right after he was disconnected he woke up. It was years because in the movie 1 SEZ "I have kept us hidden for years!" Or something like that. The're way to accepting of him for killing 2.

Just out of curiousity, has anyone else wondered if the Scientist meant for 9 to be mute? Or maybe that he skipped giving 9 a voice initially because he was getting too weak to put anymore effort into him then necessary? (or something to that effect anyways)
(And I'm not trying to say that I would prefer 9 to be mute or anything, I'm just asking to see if anyone else thought about this.)

Well... hm.. you may be on to something!
I mean, I thought before we saw the movie that his voice box was damaged by the snapping wires or not working and 2 removed it before putting in the new one. But we never see that in the movie. We see 2 looking at 9's insides but we never see anything until 2 puts in the new voice box.
It seems now that he never had one. So either the Scientist ran out of voice boxes, only had broken ones and decided not to put them in 9, he just plain forgot, or he wasn't supposed to have one.

I don't think 9 was stupid....everything went according to plan...
-9's first thoughts on other stitchpunks throughout the movie-
When 9 met 2 "Durrr...you have pretty hands." "E-excuse me?" "I mean hi. Now...may I reach inside you?" "..."
When 9 met 5 "Hi, I'm 5." "Oh my God is everyone in this movie a freaking homo!?"
1 enters "...you've got to be shitting me."
And so when 9 finally realizes there is a female (one female) he goes temporarily insane and tries to kill off all other males in order to ensure the role of loverboy for himself....and the twins just wouldn't die. The End.
-cough- I mean....that's totally how I interpret 9's actions in the movie. -is shot-

Wow, Stellana. Just wow. 0_0
Back on topic, 9 isn't stupid, he's just very, very unlucky. And curious. Which couples poorly with the fact that he's unlucky. ^^;

I agree. Sure he whines a bit...but....we all mess up, don't we?...I'm-I'm sure we didn't kill anyone in the long run (I hope not), but 9 had no idea what the talisman would do....but hey, curiousity kills the cat, in this case 2 and some of the others.
Speaking of Cat, the Cat beast almost inserted the talisman itself. So either way if 9 and 5 didn't come, Mr. Fab would still be up and running.

9 is not whiny, and definitely not stupid.
Like Anna said, he's dealing with people who are pretty much kicking and screaming against the change he wants to bring, change that will ultimately do them all good. If it were me, I'd have broken down and kicked someone a loooong time ago.
As for being stupid... Curious? Yes. Inexperienced? Yup. Lacking in basic common-sense? Pretty much. Extremely unlucky? Hell yeah. But stupid? No.
He's probably about... what, a week old at most? when they go to the Factory to rescue 2. And unfortunately, a week is definitely not enough time to comprehend how the world works, especially in regards to very strange mystical talismans. He just doesn't KNOW not to. But, when he does screw up, he doesn't take it lying down. He tries to find a solution to the problem, to take control of the situation and make things better for all of them. Though the initial screw up does hinder his attempts somewhat, he never stops trying and eventually does succeed - he does, for all intent and purpose, save them, and save the entire continuation of life as we know it.
I know how hard it is to keep going after failing others so badly. So, for his resolve and bravery, 9 really is an awesome character. He just also happens to be one of the unluckiest creatures ever to exist.

There's only one way I can describe 9's curiosity: Curiosity killed the cat!

Well said, my friend, well said *High fives*
Overall, I would think in the long run that 9 is my most favorite of the characters.
1. He ain't cocky 2. He's brave 3. He tries to resolve the problem instead of running away from it 4. He's played by Elijah Wood, who I am a fan of 5. 9 is my lucky number 6. He's tiny! I looove tiny characters!
