My favorite scene would have to be when the Cat Beast stole 5's soul. Heh, screw him anyways.
I also liked the part when 9 freed everyone from the talisman.

My favorite part of the short was above all the emotional range and expressiveness of the stitchpunks. The eyes are so expressive and I don't know how that was done with computers. I love me some Pixar but this is just a whole 'nother animal. It's clear that Wall-E was just the tip of the iceberg. There's nothing dead in those eyes, nothing fake or plasticene about the textures.
You know EXACTLY what 9 is feeling when he finds that magnifying glass. The fear that the two feel at the pulse of green light from inside 5 is palpable even before you know what they're afraid of. 5's moment of horrified realization is chilling; his final smile haunting. These little guys are more alive than some hollywood actors I could name.
As for specific moments, I'm a big fan of the lamp. I hope we get to see more stuff like that--more moments of playful discovery and innocent wonder at the world around them. I also LOVE 9's moment of triumph, when he finally realizes he's won and all his hard work has paid off. I also love 5's decision. There's a moment there when he *KNOWS* on some level that there's no way he's coming through this one alive but he's still got to give 9 the fighting chance he needs--here, take this and RUN. I thought I was all about 6, but I'm totally a new and shiny 5 fan.
I'm going to miss the silent communication. I worry that with voices, it'll lose something of its charm. Dialogue wasn't necessary. There was plenty of communication right there. Distinct personalities were conveyed without words. I'm not sure if it would have become gimmicky in a feature-length production, but I think that with the right attention to detail and scripting it could have worked wonderfully.

Heh, starry knows her stuff. ^_^
I agree completely that the depth of emotion in the short was unparalleled to any other animated short in existence. And at least they kept some form of 9's muteness in the film, if the new clip is any indication.

For me, it's probably the friendship between 5 and 9. It's just so genuine and realistic, yet, in reality, they're nothing more then computer generated, robotic, ragdolls. Also, as Starry said, the emotion these characters can show just astounds me.
But, most importantly, I absolutely adore then ending. I just love how the "spirits" of the other eight come our and go to their designated number, to finally rest peacefully. But, most importantly, I can't get over when 5 turns back to wave at 9. It, again, portrays just how strong their friendship is.
Tiny Quirks I love:
1. The sound their eyes make when they blink. 2. The sound in general. Everything sounds so realistic and accurate. 3. When 9 is running and slides on the book page, and it curls up. 4. The music. It's amazing. 'Nuff said. 5. The character and world design.
And so on, and so forth.
Basically, I enjoyed the entire short the most. It's just a work of art. As Mr. Burton said, "The short was among the most extraordinary 11 minutes of film I've ever seen. Shane's conception was and is a stunningly detailed and hauntingly beautiful universe that resonates not only visually but emotionally."
I concur, Mr. Burton, I concur.

4. The music. It's amazing. 'Nuff said. This. As much as I love the orchestral sounds of the feature, I think the digital, synthesized feeling of the short's soundtrack was incredibly well done.

I like the scene where 9 fools the CSM into grabbing the tar-filled decoy He grabbed it, his claws stuck to it, and CSM was like, WTF?

My favourite part of the short? When 5 and 9 are trying to get the lightbulb out of the lamp and 5 ends up flying backwards. And that look on 9's face when 5 gives the lightbulb to him, 5's like "Yes, yes that's for you, go on!". So cute.

My favorites would have to be the beginning and when 5's eye is glowing with the green light of the Talisman.

Firstly I like the emotion in it all, there's something very deep there, something darker and more scary than the film I think. I like the lightbulb scene with 9 & 5, I like how 5 flips the battery(?) like he does in the film (I saw the short after) I like the cat beast in general, everything about it XD And of course, the sounds and music, I mostly like the first bit of music when 9 is setting up the trap. I want it. So badly. D= (Whole soundtrack please XD)
Poor 9 all alone at the end though, and it's sad everyone else dies ='C

I'm glad that not everyone died in the movie though, that would've been depressing.
