It was a combination of poor wording and misinterpertation. The blame for a mistunderstanding does not solely fall on one. So you know, I write in a sarcastic, often dark-humor tone. However since I got misinterprated oh so easily (I admit though, that using "dropped on the head" in a bad sence and mentioning autisim in the same subject could easily be missread), I'll cut down slightly. Though I never ever sugar coat things....much. I don't have a Bluray player, so I might be missing out a bit. Still, I would have liked to see him be a bit more fleshed out. To be blunt, the having their own little world thing is a bit boreing and, dare I use the dreaded term, Mary-Sueish. It's rarely done properly. 6 isn't an execption. It's not that their portrayl of his state of mind was horrable or anything, it just needed to be elaborated on. I would have liked the idea if his state of mind were used to be frightening (such as Fiver, from Watership Down), not "cute" or "mysterious". I still believe that 6, as protrayed in the movie, was one of the weakest characters.

Is it odd that I never though of the idea 6 having autism even though I have it? I guess maybe that was just derp moment on my part. But I'll admit that 6 is my favorite character. I like him because I do think there is more to him that what we got to see on screen and yeah I do agree that he got the short end of the stick in terms of character development. And yes and one the reason I like 6 is because I feel I can relate to him some ways. And not it's not just because of the artist thing. I think it was mentioned somewhere before that 6 keeps to himself a lot, and I'm like that to in real life. I normally prefer being alone more than being around other people. Also I can relate to the whole having trouble articulating what I'm trying to say, which probably why some of the other probably 6 seriously, and heck, I've had people get annoyed with me because of that. But still even though despite 6's lack of character development and screen time he did play an important role in the movie. Heck, when you think about it he was the one who pointed 9 in right direction for finding the answers they needed, and thus as a result 9 was able to stop the Fabrication Machine.

Now, it's true that he did play an important part in the movie, it doesn't exactly excuse him for not being fleshed out beyond "prophetic artist". He didn't exactly steal the show or prove to be absolutely irreplaceable. The whole "go back to the source" thing could have been something that all of them knew but chose not to address because of 1's whole "it's nonsense" stance but 2 had some sketches that he had recovered but didn't understand fully, and it all comes together through little pieces until it finally clicks in 9's head, instead of being screamed at him as though he were a total brickhead. When you describe 6's worth through what he allows to happen in the movie it makes him seem like less of a character and more of a plot device imo. That's not to say I hate 6, far from it. He's hilarious, adorable and easy to think of drawings and comics for I just don't think he was utilized well in the film. As for my belief about why he's the way he is? You ever watch any Dr. Tran videos? Especially this one? Well, I imagine that's what things are like for him when he falls asleep, and he eventually just lost it. You would after 50 years of it. XDD

Thank you, you two, I needed those enlightenments. Now that I think of it, 6 is more like a plot device than a character. 2 even moreso. I think the reason I'm rather sour toward his character is because, one, he let me down, two, I don't understand how he became so popular and three, he's more of a plot device. It all comes together now. I can relate to the character in that he'a socialy derp. But you know what? I relate more to 1 oddly enough. That explains a thing or two >> I find him funny in that his dialouge is so narrow that it's easy to pick on, createing the in-joke, "TEH SORZ!!!". I don't think he's adorable, though. That's what wide-eyed 1 is for. That's a matter of taste. But, I do have a lot of fun casting him a the Chocolate Fish. Me and a friend I planning a dub based on 6 as Chocolate Fish.

Hmm, never really though of it that way before. Though I'll admit I do kind of enjoy the source joke. XD But still I am a little disappointed that his character didn't get freshed out more considering the role he's suppose to play.
Edit: Oh as to why 6 is so popular. My theory is because he's adorable and plus he has the whole mysterious thing on his side. Besides I noticed that in a lot of fandoms charatcers with at least one of those qualities tend to be popular.

I was reading a little more info the other day on the Portal universe, and found myself reading up on Doug Rattmann. You know the guy: disheveled, has anisocoria (odd-shaped pupils), writes on walls a lot, listens to the voices in his head ...
REMIND YOU OF ANYONE???
I will make this crossover happen, I swear it ...

I thought the same thing when I first played Portal: Hey drawing stuff, he reminds me of 6! Then the comic came out, and I was reminded of 6 even more! Plus the Oracle Turret reminded me of 6 as well, with her crypticness!

I haven’t posted here before :3 As 6 is my favourite character I suppose it would be good to add to this thread. I don’t know if this is obvious or not, but watching 9 on my computer, I managed to catch a little screen shot of 6’s corner and found out little details. It’s made up of a brocken picture frame resting up against the wall. If you look, you can see that the canvas of the old painting is pined to the wooden frame (On the right hand side) (Also if you look at all the stray ink splat‘s, some are in really odd places, what does he get up to?) I love this little detail! It’s like they wanted to give him his own space (or keep him out of theirs) But still they would be able to look into what he’s up to. I love the thought of them not trusting 6 on his own, it just make’s his character a little more cryptic. Is he really that bad that he can’t be left unsupervised? What do you think? Oh and by the way .... how the hell did 6 manage to pin his art up so high in the movie? He must of had help *little guy that he is* Must have needed help for that!

Good catch! I knew that 6 had a wee corner blocked off, but I'd never noticed it was a picture frame before - I just thought it was a scrap of curtain.
I kind of think 1 wanted to keep an eye on 6 for the same sort of reasons he sent 2 out to die - he obviously doesn't want the others to know too much about the Talisman (that's almost outright stated) so I suppose he wanted to keep 6 close at hand so he could step in if he ever started making more sense and got the others to listen to him. You never know, though; their interaction at the funeral scene (about the only time they do interact, come to that) sort of implies that 6 and 8, at least, got on OK, so maybe it was also a precaution to make sure he didn't hurt himself. Maybe 8 also helped him pin the higher drawings up.

AH MAI GAWD MY FEELS Cuz you agree :3 First, Eva and I noticed a long time ago that 6's room was in a picture frame, but I had assumed that Eva posted something about that . Guess he didn't. But yeah, I think that the reasons that 1 kept him there are exactly that!! He didn't want people to know about the Talisman, but then he was also legitimately worried about 6's safety. He probably thought that 6 wasn't coherent enough to take care of himself, and 6 was too afraid of 1 to say anything against that. Like, he didn't want to stir up trouble, so he just let 1 keep him there. Plus, I think 1 had really good intentions, which 6 could tell. I like to think of 1 seeing 6 almost like his own child, and someone he loved and had to protect, but 1 doesn't know how to show love and affection because i's not in his personality and he's too focused on protecting everyone. 6 can tell that because he is like a child and can tell when people are lying. Holy shit. I just made this a lot longer than I meant to. Um....OOPS. X'D hope that wasn't too horrible, but this is how I think, so yeah.

Azvolrien ~ Ah this is true, I know 1 was worried about the others knowing to much about the talisman. The way he always interrupted him. From the first viewing of the movie I felt really bad about that, he really wants to get the information across, but he can’t. Must be so frustrating! Oh and I love the thought of 8 helping 6 with pinning up the art … it feel’s like something that 8 would do to show he didn’t totally hate his gut’s I had to draw it! vindrae.deviantart.com/art/8-helps-6-336859184?ga_submit=10%3A1352484528~{Eli-the-Panda}~ You noticed to! I love little things like this, how appropriate that he would live in a painting.. I think you are right, 1 would keep him safe because it’s his role … also I think 6 is a good judge of character, just like you pointed out. But he looked generally shocked when 1 said he sent 2 out to die. I might have to draw a little picture of 1 looking after 6 in a father type way … that would be so cute. You comment was not horrible! It’s nice to have people to talk to!
