Not sure about the 'teenager' bit. Wikipedia describes 2 as "an aged inventor"-- but then again, Wikipedia doesn't know everything. Wikipedia describing 2 as "an aged inventor" is not the only source for that particular description; it's in a few other places, too, including imdb. So I think we can be pretty set on the idea that 2 will be an older man, like 1. ^^ Martin Landau is an amazing actor all on his own. Upon first hearing his voice, it sounded a bit different than I was generally expecting. Not bad at all, actually; makes it pretty interesting. It still harbors that sound of friendliness and warmth that you would expect from 2 - good casting choice, to say the least. This is why I'm dying to hear Martin as 2...

well in the interview with Shane Aker he said that 9 was the latest version of the rag dolls so it would make sense that 2 was old but not as old as 1.

That interview was concerning the short film, though, so it may or may not be true for the film. We don't know yet. ... XD So 3 is an elderly individual and 8 is an upstart young'un!

interesting thought there, but i don't think it'd wreck the timeline, when it comes to twins theres ALWAYS an older twin (no duh 13 lol), 1 could of been made AFTER a proto-type, so 1 would be the oldest, as he found more about what he could do with the dolls he thought 1's yang needed 2's ying. working together, then i guess he got more ideas and created 3, maybe 3 has a power that could ONLY be used with 4? so on and so forth.

But what if 1-8 were activated at approximately the same time, but 9 was taken to the professor's house and activated later (for some odd reason)?
Maybe it's the nature of the soul that determines whether the dolls behave as young or old?

well if you watch the trailer, when the box with the image of the professor pops up, you can actually see that the PROFESSOR'S DEAD BODY is right next to 9. It isn't very decomposed at all, so he either preserved himself, or he died not too long before 9 woke up (which supports my theory that the prof was the last human to die). So I think he activated 9 himself then died. or something.

I sure hope it isn't decomposing. Or at least, if it is, they have the tact to leave that paper over his face. You can see that his fingertips are turning black... 0.o
I wonder if the humans died only recently, then. Or if, indeed, the professor survived the longest.

I have a theory why 2's health is fading!!!!
My theories have been wrong before, so you're allowed to attack me with flaming pitchforks and whatever else if I'm wrong... *hides in room and locks all windows* xD
Ok, so this theory is tied to the idea that numbers 1 - 8 existed when humans were alive and have age gaps. So, in my theories, 1 was designed to fight in the human wars against the machines, and 2 was designed to engineer weapons in the human wars. 1 fulfilled his purpose, but 2 became rebellious, and selfishly tried to build a rag-doll civilization instead of protect the existing human civilization.
1's frustrations and haughtiness cause him to abandon 2 often. When 2 finally gets severely injured by a machine, 1 feels guilty, and the only way for his pride to let him mentally survive was to develop a system where everyone has to watch their own backs, so he never gets blamed for their mistakes (or even his own).
1, from that point on, was extremely careful, and developed fighting strategies to defeat the machines in the war, using human weapons and his own inherited powers (that may or may not come from the items he wears, such as the staff and hat). 2, on the other hand, isn't a violent creature... he actually tries to negotiate and compromise with the machines. This causes him to get in a lot of life-threatening situations, and often is almost killed.
2's health would be deteriorating quicker than 1's, because he's so curious. Curiosity killed the 2. He probably was searching amongst debris and trash for his inventions, and was attacked by a machine more than ten times. After his legs were constantly torn apart and reconstructed, the bone (a metal rod) started losing its strength, and now he has a hard time walking. That would be why he uses a cane. His vision also started fading from too many head injuries sustained by machines... because 1's older, and his vision isn't that bad, so 2's could actually be fading due to multiple injuries. He might even have a separate pair of goggles over his original ones that he can take on and off (that'd be cool!).
2 would be a really fragile and lovable character, then. He's defenseless, curious, and inventive... It's going to really suck when he dies... *sighs*
Yup, those are my theories. Care to expand them??? Or counter-argue??? (I love those)

I think that a good theory Final, it explans why 2's health could be fading because of his curiosity and getting hurt all the time. I think that he also use his hat with the glasses lens to see.

I just thought an aging character was included because it would be more interesting. It would add variety to the cast, even if it didn't have a specific reason. Who knows? Perhaps doll bodies can deteriorate on their own, just like human ones, even without injuries to speed up the process. Perhaps, in an artificial sort of way, 2's body is 'over the hill'.
IT WIIIIIILL SUCK WHEN HE DIES. XC
