I'm with 13. I thought 2 or 5 would have been the doctor types, but as time progresses I think you are right about 3 and 4 being the medicine men.

=^-^= well as for 5's eye, i always thought that he would have lost it from an attack from the walkers and 2 found him. 5 trying to stand but falls to his fet, 2 being 2 helps him as 5 tell him to leave him, but 2 tells him that would never do that to a friend and helps him up. they start walking, the walkers se them, 7 being close by spots them and sees the walker about to attack them and pushes them out of the way.

I had to bring 5 back out of the pile of other threads. Poor 5, at the very bottom...
I'm liking that the idea of 5 and 9 being close friends in the movie like they were in the short doesn't seem like much of a questionable one anymore.
I mean, judging from the new clip, 5 seems to be closer to 9 than any of the others, really. At nearly all parts of it, they were right by each other. Pretty cool I must say. ^^

I have a feeling that 5 might have been closer with 2 before 9 came along though.
But yeah, the idea of 9 and 5 as best friends sounds very likely, as they were already very close buddies in the short.

I've always wanted to do this with every character so... I shall! *pulls out huge list of notes taken on every character... yes, I am obsessed*
5's personality is the hardest to describe for me, because his personality could be... anything...
Ok, I've pictured him as 2's apprentice, the one designed to rebuild human technology and repair civilization for them as the few left hung on, barely surviving. Once they died out, 5 lost his purpose, and became completely worthless. 2, being the positive and most loving/forgiving character, told 5 that nobody's worthless. 2 gave 5 so much hope, and they became close.
They shared an unbreakable bond when 5 lost his eye. 2 removed a piece of leather from his body and placed it over the place where 5's eye used to be. Soon, they became the closest together. 2 taught and explained all of his discoveries to 5, who admired him dearly. They were so close and so deeply-bonded that when 2 died, 5 became silent, distant, and lost most of his personality as well as his hope.
However, 9 had a lot of 2's traits, which was why 5 began noticing him and following him around. Soon, they became friends. 5 remembered everything 2 taught him, and passed 2's teachings down to 9, and saw himself in 9, as he learned from all the neat things science was. Noticing himself and 2 inside of 9, they developed a close bond. This close bond was the reason 5 continued living, didn't regret the past, and moved on -- because 2 wouldn't want 5 to stay in the past, but to move on with his future.
... Those are my theories about 5. Hahahahahaha... *hides* I know I'm not 100% right. Those are my guesses. (Most of it are summarizations I've already made in Soul Seekers, which I'm updating existing chapters before moving on...)

I guess I'm the only one who pictures 5 to be rather bitter and cynical?
I don't know why, but my mind interprets him as a crusty and sarcastic fellow. (An old sea captain! Ha haa... ha...) Someone who would always point out the myriad reasons why a plan will end in horrible death. Someone who initially looked at 9 and saw a dead weight and a menace. Of course, I also picture 9 winning him over and turning him into a loyal friend. You know, adding a little hope to his bitter personality.
"Can I ask you a question, 5?" "I suppose asking you to hold it in would be asking too much." "How did you lose your eye?" "... You know what, hold it in."

Is it mean that I laughed at that??? ^
LOL...
I pictured 5 being humorous for the most part, because of his actions in the short. He seemed like an older, experienced, somewhat funny guy who was willing to give his life for 9 (and he did).

Somebody laughed! Yaaay my day is better now.
If it helps any, I doubt my mental image is accurate at all. But I find it interesting, so there you have it.
... When 5 bangs his cane against the ground to get 9's attention, everybody else sees a "Hey, 9, come give me a hand" sort of moment.... And a I see a "Quit goofing off, you silly sod!" moment. ... I find crusty old men more entertaining, I suppose.
